Obituary: David Ross Golden, age 73, of Brooksville, FL., died , 13, 2014 at the Hernando Pasco Hospice in Brooksville. Dave was born on 25, 1941, in McDowell , West Virginia, to Earl Jackson & Grace Myrtle (Newberry) Golden. He was raised in a small town called Jolo. As a small boy, he would remember everyone rushing to get their chores done because his older cousin Ralph Stanley, the Bluegrass Artist, well known for the song, “O' Brother, Where Art Thou”, was coming over. Dave would spend time with Ralph in the barn while Ralph practiced, before he would enterain out on the porch for everyone. As Dave got older, he and his friends would collect soda bottles and take the money to go watch a movie, something in which he always enjoyed to do. At night, he would climb the hills with his shotgun and lay under the stars wondering what was out there or if it ever ended. He loved music, always listening to George Jones, John Anderson, and the Eagles, to name a few. He had an ear for music and could turn around and play the same song on his guitar. Survived by his father, Earl Golden, his mother Grace had already passed. Dave married his wife Sandy in of 1976, in Maryland. moved to Brandon, FL., in ’79, then relocated to Tampa, FL., in ’81. Dave worked for the Professional Wrestlers, Jack and Jerry Brisco at Brisco Brothers Body Shop as a mechanic for about 10 years. Him and Sandy eventually moved to Brooksville, FL., in of ’88. Soon after, he would work at Frontier Campground and Auto Sales, and eventually semi-retire from there and only work part time for them. he was semi-retired, he and his wife Sandy would travel to Biloxi, MS., where he loved to play the slot machines. were also able to travel to Nashville and Vegas. He enjoyed working outside in the yard and spent time with his “grandbabies” filling the birdhouses for the birds and squirrels. ’s and afternoon’s would roll around and he’d say,” Going to meet Bob and The Guys, and have a drink”. Because of this, people would refer to him as "Frontier Dave." Family and friends were what mattered most to him; always together for the holidays and not a day went by he didn’t call or come by to visit. His grandbabies were his everything, and the sun would rise and set in their eyes. Dave and Sandy had 1 son, Gary Wright of Land O’ Lakes; 2 daughters, Tracy Owens and Julia Thomas, of Brooksville, FL. He had 5 grandchildren; David Dickens (Davey-Doo), Makayla Grace Thomas; Torrance Thomas; Bubbie “Jesse” Thomas; and Courtney Thomas, all of Brooksville, FL. He had 3 great grandchildren all from Provo, Utah and 1 great grandchild of Brooksville, FL. Dave spent 32 years with his wife Sandy until she passed away in 2008. In 2013, David married Jennifer McDaniel. Jennifer and David would spend their time at the Ray’s Baseball games. traveled to Biloxi and spent many weekends together down in Madeira Beach at John‘s Pass. He enjoyed working out in the yard and sitting by the fire. He loved his dog Frankie, that climbed trees and would later show him off to anyone that came to visit. Him and Jennifer also spent time with friends at cookouts and at Frasier Farm with the family. Dave will be greatly missed by all of those that know and loved him. He will be remembered bouncing into the house with a drink in his hand and a smile on his face. Dave was a member of the American Legion Post 99. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Turner , 504 East Jefferson Street, Brooksville, FL., on 25, 2014 from 1-2 PM. The Memorial Service will be conducted at the funeral home at 2 PM, with Mr. Richard Sweade officiating. A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held immediately following the service at The American legion Post 99, 208 E. Ft. Dade Avenue, Brooksville, FL. |
