Obituary: Michael Anthony Gismondi died at age 94 on 20, 2017 in Stuart, Florida. Mike was born in the Bronx, New York on 7, 1922, to Carmela and Amabile Gismondi. He was the eldest son of his 3 siblings, Helen, John and Sonny. Mike served during World War II in the years 1941 through 1945 in the United States Marine Corps. He participated in major Battle Campaigns in Europe, including the famous Battle of the Bulge, in the country of Belgium and also later in the Pacific Islands. He was a "Proud Fighting Marine." Upon his return from World War II, Mike met his future wife Mary in the Bronx, NY. Mary became his sweetheart and they were married in 1958. Mike worked with the United States Postal Service as a mail handler until he retired at age 55. In 1977, Mike and his beloved wife Mary and daughter Elaine, moved to Boynton Beach, Florida. built their retirement home and lived there happily until 2011. New Years Day 2012, Mike and Mary moved to Stuart, Florida. His wife Mary preceded him in death in 2013. Mike lived the remainder of his life in Stuart Florida. During this time Mike's amazing personality and smile cast a spell over all who cared for and loved him. He is survived by his loving daughter, Elaine Gismondi, and was predeceased by his wife Mary, his brothers John, Sonny and his sister Helen. Mike also leaves behind several cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Obituary: John Woodside Girvin IV of Tallahassee, Florida, died on , 17, 2013, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was 70. John Girvin was born on 18, 1943 in Port Arthur, Texas. As a small child his family moved to Valdosta, Georgia then Winter Garden, Florida. John graduated from Lakeview High School in Winter Garden. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Administration degrees from Florida Atlantic University. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was stationed at the Chatham Lighthouse in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and then transferred to the Fowey Rocks Light House in Miami where he performed search and rescue missions off the coast of South Florida. On 29, 1977, John married Sharon Gordon and together they have two daughters. John served as the first Inspector General under Florida Governor Bob Graham. A devoted husband, proud and loving father and dear friend, John enjoyed cycling and was an avid marksman and a member at a young age of the Junior NRA. He had one of the quickest wits. John was a member of The Florida for Performing Arts and Education and Tallahassee Rifle and Pistol Club. He was preceded in death by his father, John Woodside Girvin III. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Gordon-Girvin of Tallahassee, two daughters, Marie Girvin of Tallahassee and Ellen Girvin of Chicago, his mother Mary Bess Girvin and brothers Ralph and Steven of Orlando and Douglas of Jupiter, Florida. He will be greatly missed. A visitation will be held on , 22, 2013 at Culleys MeadowWood Timberlane Road Chapel from 12:00pm - 2:00pm, followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00pm. |
