Obituary: GYNGELL. Gordon P Gyngell died 1, 2015 at McLean surrounded by love and support. For 42 years he has been the loving husband of Janice Benn. He was born 9, 1928 in Putnam and was the son of the late Gordon and Elsie (Goehring) Gyngell. He grew up in Putnam, Windsor and Hartford and attended Hartford Public High School, Northwest Community and the University of Hartford. During the Korean War he served In the U. S. Army as a Master Sergeant in the Combat Intelligence Unit of the 143rd Tank Battalion stationed in Germany. He joined the Simsbury Police Department in 1957 and retired as its Chief in 1990. He continued his service to his beloved Simsbury through his 30 year membership with the Simsbury Civitan Club, culminating as Governor of the New England District of Civitan International. In addition, he was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. In 1955, he was a first Scoutmaster of Simsbury Boy Scout Troop 176. He was a true patriot who loved his country, his town and those who chose to serve. Gordon was a master woodworker who embraced change. He was an engraver and a locksmith and loved history, reading, cooking, riverboat cruising, his motorcycle and his iPad which was his constant companion during the painful and arduous years of his illness. Besides his wife he is survived by his five children and their families from his first marriage. In Connecticut, he leaves two sons, Jay and Gordon III and his companion Peggy Cunningham. In South Carolina, he leaves a son and two daughters, Kurt, Linda Stulpin and her husband John and Debra Berloni. He also leaves his two step daughters and their families. Karen Pardue PhD and her husband Michael in Kennebunk, Maine and Gretchen Lutz and her husband Robert PhD in Wayland, Massachusetts. Surviving are 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Noma DeGray of East Granby and a much loved cousin, Doris Bixby of Rockville. Those of us who loved him will miss him greatly. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on 7th at the First Church of Christ in Simsbury, 689 Hopemeadow St., Simsbury. In lieu of flowers should you so choose, memorial donations may be made in Gordons name to the Simsbury Veterans Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1101 Simsbury, CT 06070. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Unit 1 and the Hospice Staff in McLean for their exceptional care and kindness. Gordons final months were filled with comfort and laughter due to your warmth and attentiveness. We are indeed grateful. |

Obituary: Nils Erik Gyllensten, 41, of West Haven, CT. passed away unexpectedly on 6, 2016. He was born on 16, 1974, the cherished son of Nils and Sharon Gyllensten of Madison, CT. He is survived by his beloved wife, Allison Martin Gyllensten and his twin three year old sons, Trevor and Tyler. He was the brother of Jennifer (Brook) Stockton, Scott (Susan) Gyllensten, Stacy (Steven) Ernst, and Brian Gyllensten. He is also survived by his mother and father in law, Ron and Pam Martin, his brother and sister in law, Andrew and Jennifer Drennen, and six nieces and nephews, Bridgette, Alex and Jacob Ernst, Shannon Stockton, Seth Gyllensten, and Thomas Drennen as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Erik moved with his family to Madison in 1978 where he attended the Madison Public School System, graduating in 1993. He attended Jacksonville University where he became a proud member of the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon and also attended Southern Connecticut State University. He worked in the paint industry for most of his adult life, most recently working as Head of Maintenance (BTS Project) at Apple Rehab in West Haven. His life forever changed when he married Allison in 2011 and with the birth of his sons a year later. He adored them and truly loved spending every waking moment with them and sharing their adventures with anyone who would listen. Erik made friends wherever he went. He loved keeping in touch with family and friends and created the Madison, CT. Facebook page o catch up with old friends and maybe make new ones which brought together over 2000 community members. He also connected with distant family across the world taking great pride in his Swedish heritage. Erik was an armchair sports enthusiast who loved the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. He was an active member of New Departure Fish and Game Club, especially looking forward to their annual fishing day where his nephew and his sons learned to fish. He was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and believed in living in the moment. He always said that life is too short to spend it worrying. His favorite quote was Life is what you make it, so make it. His passing will forever leave a void in the lives of his family and friends.
