Obituary: Ida Christina Garcia, 94, died peacefully in Littleton, Colorado, on 13, 2017. She was born in Antonito, Colorado on 23, 1922, to parents Galansancio and Christina Garcia, into a family of three brothers and three sisters. Her parents, three brothers, two sisters, two husbands, and four children precede her in death. Ida graduated high school and was honored with a scholarship to a teachers college but her family was unable to afford for Ida to continue her studies away from home so she remained in Antonito to work as a store clerk, and later as a bookkeeper, for a small department store. In 1948, Ida married José Teodoro Ted Romero and together had three beautiful daughters, Gloriana, Patricia, and Carmen. only five short years together, Ted died of complications from injuries suffered in a farming accident, in 1953. Ida found herself widowed, pregnant with their fourth daughter, and caring for a seriously ill child. Due to such stress and sorrow, Ida lost her fourth daughter, Mary, just one day after her premature birth in 1953. Already grief-stricken from burying her husband and newborn baby, Ida endured more pain when two months later, her first-born little girl, Gloriana, succumbed to leukemia in 1953. Through so many of lifes tragedies in such a short time, Ida remained strong, resilient, and hopeful for her daughters and family. Five years later, Ida found love again in 1958 when she married Didio Paul Garcia. had three children, Christine, Didio Paul, Jr., who died after only one week of life, and Michael. Ida and Didio took a gamble and made many sacrifices to make a better life for their children, when they moved their family from Antonito to Denver in 1963. The family settled in Lakewood, Colorado, building a home filled with love, laughter, good food, family, and faith. Ida and Didio were blessed to be together for 27 years, but Ida found herself widowed again in 1985, when Didio died of a massive heart attack. This was just four short months after Ida suffered the loss of her second-born daughter, Patricia, whom Ida had taken back into her home and cared for tirelessly, as Patricia fought a long brave battle with stomach cancer. Idas fortitude and determination to remain independent and self-sufficient, even in the face of so much loss, never wavered, as evidenced by her perseverance when she learned how to drive at the age of 64. Through the years, Ida suffered many of her own health challenges but always fought through her serious illnesses and hospitalizations to regain her health, and was able to live independently and alone in her home up until the last 20 months of her life. Idas life revolved around her family and home, always devoted to her children and grandchildren. Ida lived to cook and bake delicious food to share with everyone she welcomed to her home; she enjoyed gardening, reading, and sewing; and she never turned down an invitation to play a slot-machine or an opportunity to join a bingo game. Ida strived to make sure her family and friends felt welcomed, special, and cherished every day. Although Idas aspiration of becoming a teacher was never realized, to her children, she was the consummate teacher, coach, and cheerleader. She quietly and patiently guided her children through lifes lessons, always present for support and encouragement, leading by example, and never forgetting to celebrate their accomplishments. Ida taught her family to live life with intention, humility, humor, and gratitude; to be a person of character and integrity; to work hard and do their best, no matter the task; to love with kindness, patience, compassion, and generosity, no matter how little one has; and even at the end, to die with courage, grace, and dignity. She lived a long, rich life, full of substance. Ida is survived by her sister, Marcella Chilton, her children, Carmen (Henry) Cierpial, Christine (John) Weatherford, and Michael (Rena) Garcia, her grandchildren, Erin, Adam, Haley, and Natalie, plus many nieces and nephews. Ida was a loving and caring wife and mother, and a kind and generous person; she was loved by many and will never be forgotten. She has left this mortal world and has gone to be among the angels in Heaven, but her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
