Obituary: It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Jane Janie (Lavezzi) Gallegos, age 75, announce her passing on 4, 2015 in Tucson, Arizona from pneumonia while recovering from a heart procedure. She was a long time resident of both Colorado and Arizona. There will be a memorial celebration of her life on , 11th, at 2:00 pm at Olinger Crown Hill, 7777 W. 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Jane was born 9, 1939 to the late Irvin and Jane (Fleming) Lavezzi in Danville, Illinois, reared in Chicago, Illinois, and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Chicago. She relocated to Colorado in 1970s, where she married her husband, the late John B. Gallegos, in 1978. M.J., as she was often called by her myriad of friends, began her professional career as a secretary when her fathers death required her surviving family to step in and run the family furniture business. In the 70s Jane moved to Colorado where she became a successful realtor until her retirement. In addition, the ever creative and active Jane helped establish an art co-op, was a real estate investor, and even drove a mountain bus route for RTD. Jane and John were very well known in Coal Creek Canyon, both professionally and by having raised boys Jeff and Tony in the community. Friends and family were always in attendance at their frequent soirees, where great fun and a bursting belly were guaranteed. Finally with a heavy heart, they left their beloved mountain home in 2013 due to health issues. In the 1980s Jane and John joined the flight of the Snowbirds, and made their winter home in Tucson, Arizona. quickly formed a new circle of friends there, with numerous community events, day trips, and the lively gatherings they hosted. Ever curious about people and places, Jane was a world traveler, and had the good fortune of taking trips to nearly every corner of the globe with family and friends. Never ones to be intimidated by mere world events, one of Jane and Johns most notable trips was to the Middle East, to tour the Holy Land and Arab countries where their group was accompanied by machine-gun toting escorts. Janes life was filled with light, love and laughter, remaining to her last a steadfast and loyal friend. Possessing a fierce love of life and adventure, she will always be treasured for her wicked fun sense of humor and style, her sage advice and generosity. Jane is terribly missed by her daughter Deborah Vail, grandchildren Kayla Vail, Danielle and David Chandler, as well as numerous step-children and grandchildren; including Cindy (Steve Kellums) Ungerman, Stephen (Angie Krusmark) Gallegos, Jeff (Steph) Gallegos, Anthony Gallegos, Donald and Cassandra Ungeman. Surviving are cherished siblings Judith (Lew Grothe) Lavezzi and William (Lynn) Lavezzi, sister in law Linda Lavezzi (the late Thomas Lavezzi), Gloria Cordova, Fred (Kathy) Gallegos, Martha Walling as well as former husband Donald Flens (Karen). Known fondly as Ding to many of her nieces and nephews, Janes loss leaves an enormous void in her entire extended family. During her hospitalization one of the most important pieces of equipment in the room was Janes cell phone, as long-time friends from far and wide kept in constant touch. Her good and loving friends and cousin rushed from all corners of Tucson to be with her as soon as they heard the dreadful prognosis, for which we are eternally grateful. Typical of her generosity, Jane chose to be an organ and tissue donor and was cremated. She and her beloved husband John will be interred at Crown Hill Tower of Memories at a later date. Obituary: LEONARD LEN GALLEGOS A Mass for Leonard Len Gallegos will be held at 2 p.m. on , 1, 2014 at the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez. Rosary services will be held at 6 p.m. on , 31, 2014 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Father Pat Valdez will be presiding. Len was born on 25, 1956 in Cortez, the son of Adonais Ed and Mary Teodorita (Martinez) Gallegos. He passed away suddenly, due to a heart attack at his home in Aurora, Colo. Len was 57 years old. In 1975 Len graduated from the Montezuma Cortez High School. He went on to attend cosmetology school in Grand Junction, Colo. Len worked until his death as a stylist and cosmetologist. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan, and also shared a love for fishing and camping. Len is survived by his domestic partner, Ed Lantz of Aurora, Colo.; his granddaughter, Natalya; brothers and sisters, Phillip Martinez (Maxine) of Bayfield, Colo., Toby Gallegos (Sharon Duncan) of Durango, Colo., Larry Gallegos (Kathy Butler) of Farmington, N.M., Mary Ann Miera (Rafael Balderrama) of Lewis, Colo., Carmen Gallegos (Joe Gomez) of Cortez, and Ernestine Olivas (Gilbert Olivas) of Cortez; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Adonais Ed and Mary Teodorita (Martinez) Gallegos; his siblings, Stella Lopez, Jo Mott, and Alex H Gallegos; and two nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Leonards name at Vectra Bank. |
