Obituary: Debra Elaine Thomas Gillian, 60, of Beaver, passed away , 19, 2016. She was the daughter of Fred Wilson Thomas and Rosie Marie Irvin Thomas. Born May 24, 1955 in Raleigh , WV. She was a member of Senior Friends, Well I’ll Bee and Friends of Raleigh Co. Library. Debra graduated from WWHS in 1973, Concord in 1977 with a bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education. She completed her master’s degree plus 45 hours in speech and communication from WVU in 1984. She started her career with Raleigh BOE at Eccles Elementary in 1977, as a first grade teacher. She taught 33 years including Beaver, Shady, Daniels, Cranberry and Cresent. Debra not only had a love for teaching but for traveling as well. She traveled to Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Israel, Ireland, North Ireland, Scotland and Wales. She enjoyed genealogy, cats and antiquing. She was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 41 years, Clark Gillian; son, Christopher Clark Gillian and daughter-in-law, Anastasiia Osokina Gillian; siblings, John Franklin Thomas and wife Arbutus of Richmond, VA, Shirley Marie Smith of Elgin, Ill, James A. Thomas and wife Marijean of Goreville, Ill, and Sharron Lee Lilly of Daniels along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you is given to neighbors, Greg and Robin Bragg, Joyce and Clyde Proffitt, the Allen family-Mike, Kathy, Martina and Nick and all the other wonderful friends. We appreciate all their flowers, friendship, contributions and support. Friends may gather with the family , 23, 2016 from 10-11am at Blue Ridge . Services will be held 11am, , 23, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. John Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with family and friends to serve as pallbearers. Obituary: Nila Jean Hurlocker Gilliam, 72, of Beckley passed away on , 7, 2017. She was of the Christian Faith. Born 3, 1945 in Concord, NC. She was the daughter of the late Flold L. Hurlocker and Roxie L. Ward Meadows. Mrs. Gilliam was a homemaker and was a former employee of Pete and Bob’s Drive In, Phil’s Drive In and later became the neighborhood babysitter. She loved and cared for many children. Nila enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, needle point, crochet, video games and was a vivid reader. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, John Hurlocker. Those left behind to carry on her legacy include her loving husband of 46 years, Thomas Gilliam; son, Ricky (Richie) Hurlocker and wife Libby of Huntersville, NC; daughter, Vicky Gravely and husband Bobby of Beckley; three granddaughters, Stephanie (Stevie) Gravely and husband Harley and Lindsey Gravely all of Beckley, Harley Bradley of Huntersville, NC; one great grandson, Ty Chapman of Beckley; brothers, Ralph (Rick) Meadows and wife Tammy, Daniel Meadows all of Kannapolis, NC, Basil Meadows and wife Gidget of Concord, NC; sisters, Patricia Bell and husband Donald of Mt. Airy, NC, Della Hughes and husband Lonnie of Beckley and Shelia Mayhew and husband Tim of Sabine, WV and a host of nieces and nephews Friends may gather with the family from 12 – 2pm on , 12, 2017 at Blue Ridge , Beckley.
