Obituary: Wayne Vance Gygi was the oldest of six children born to Orson H. And Zina Vance Gygi on 4, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in East Mill Creek, attended school in the Granite School District, graduated from Granite High School, and attended the University of Utah. He then served a two and a half year LDS Mission to Uruguay which ended in 1953. Following his mission, Wayne was drafted into the Korean War on May 4, 1953 where he served in the army stationed in Germany and was released from active military service and transferred to the Army Reserve on 4, 1953. his services, he graduated from Brigham Young University with a Business Degree and worked at the Orson H. Gygi Inc. and was later appointed President of the family business. On 23, 1955, he married Kaye Holmstead in the Salt Lake Temple.During his life, Wayne was dedicated to hard work and service. Serving in the family business, he provided for his family and in turn taught his own children the ethics of working. Throughout his life he served in Priesthood leadership positions, including a mission with his wife in the Orem, Utah North Stake and worked in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. In his later years, he was known to the school kids of Geneva Elementary as Mr. Smiley where he worked for 10 years as a crossing guard. He also regularly attended the Orem Recreation to practice his hook-shot on the basketball court. He will forever be remembered for his dedication to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and his love of singing.The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude toward the personnel of the Orchard Park in Orem, as well as the doctors and nurses of the Utah Valley Regional Medical in Provo for their love and vigilant care.This beloved family member and friend passed away on 13, 2009 encircled by family and we hope that Heaven can use an extra crossing guard. Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Kaye, four children, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held on , 17, 2009 in the Timpanogos Park 6th Ward Chapel at 11:00 a.m.. Obituary: Kaye Holmstead Gygi 18, 1931 – 1, 2011 Kaye Florence Holmstead Gygi, passed away 1st, 2011 – a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt & friend. Kaye was born 18, 1931 to Earl Eric Hap and Florence Hofheins Holmstead. She was the youngest of 6 children and grew up attending school in American Fork where her father taught high school. Kaye graduated from American Fork High School, and enrolled in 1950 at Utah State Agricultural , later graduating from Brigham Young University where she was a member of the ROTC Sponsor Corps, not only gaining an education but also making many lifelong and dear friends. Kaye married Wayne Vance Gygi in the Salt Lake Temple, 23, 1955. During her life, Kaye was dedicated to serving her family and others. She taught her own children the ethics of kindness, generosity and hard work. Throughout her life she served in many church leadership positions, including a mission with her husband in the Orem, Utah North Stake. Once her children were grown she took on a few jobs working in a grocery store and a fabric store, just to name a few. Kaye loved to read, loved the sunshine, and loved watching the autumn leaves changing color. In Kayes later years, she was known for her adventurous attempts with recipes and her hand work. She was talented at sewing, knitting and crocheting. Gifts of her knitting and crocheting will help many remember her kind generosity. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude toward the personnel of the Orchard Park in Orem, as well as the doctors and nurses of the Utah Valley area for their love and vigilant care. Kaye was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, three of her four sisters, and her brother. Kaye is survived by her sister - Mary Holmstead Dean, four children: Mark (Anne) Gygi – Spanish Fork, UT; Bryan (Shawna) Gygi – Orem, UT; Diana Gygi – Orem, UT; and, Barbara (Tim) Evans – Bellevue, WA; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild with 2 more on the way. A viewing will be held evening, 7, 2011 at Walker Sanderson in Orem from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. services will be held on , 8, 2011 at the Timpanogos Park 6th Ward Chapel at 11:00 a.m. There will be a viewing just prior to the services from 9:45am – 10:45am. The building is located at 955 North 300 East in Orem. |
