Obituary: Robert Wesley Guthrie, age 83, passed away on , 14, 2015. He was born in Bethpage, Sumner , Tennessee to parents, Irvin Wesley and Margaret (Durham) Guthrie. Bob entered the Army in 1950 serving in numerous assignments around the world including three tours in Korea, two tours in Newfoundland and Germany, and one each in France, Japan, and Vietnam. Among his medals and decorations are: Army Commendation Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star Medal, Meritorius Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (11 Awards), National Defense Service Medal (1st Oak Leaf Luster), United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Meritorius Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Army Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Overseas Service Ribbon (4), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit. He rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major, an honor held for over 17 of his 35 years of service. His final service assignment was the HHC 21st Support Command in Germany. Joining the Non-Commissioned Officers Association (NCOA) in 1985, Bob continued to be active in the military community as an advocate for active duty and retired service members and their families. He was apointed to a 4-year term to the Army Chief of Staff Army Retiree Council in 1995. He served as the President of the USO of San Antonio and Central Texas, a trustee of the Fort Sam Houston Memorial Detachment, and as a member of the Fort Sam Houston Retiree Council. An avid supporter of the Republican National Committee, he enjoyed expressing conservative views and providing support to his candidates. He was a member of numerous other professional organizations to include the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, Texas Coalition of Veterans Organizations, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Association for Unifomed Services, Association of the Unites States Army and the Fort Sam Houston Sergeants Major Association. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. (Vincent) Guthrie, and his parents. His daughters E. Ann Guthrie and Nancy A. Guthrie, and his brother James I. Guthrie survive him. He was a loving husband, father and brother, a true patriot, and proud soldier. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. A private family service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National.

Obituary: Robert Keith Guthrie was born in Lodi, Ohio on 4, 1914. He moved with his family to Abilene, Texas and worked in the oil fields as a roughneck. graduating from Oklahoma A&M in 1934 with a B. S. in Electrical Engineering, Bob worked in the Petroleum Engineering Department of the Bureau of Mines in Dallas, Texas from 1934-1942 and 1946-1948. In 1942, Bob volunteered as an Ensign in the Naval Reserve and was sent to Harvard and MIT for electronics training. teaching at MIT for a year, he worked with David Packard in Washington D. C. designing radar counter-measures. He supervised the design and installation of counter radar measures on several ships participating in the Normandy invasion including the Battle ship of Texas. At the time of the Japanese surrender he was on a ship heading toward the Pacific. He was honorably discharged form the USNR as a Lt. Commander in 1946. Following the war, he returned to work for the Bureau of Mines. In of 1948, after moving to San Antonio, he served as Field Chairman of the Seeligson Engineering Committee, responsible for the unitization of 13 major oil companies interests. Following the completion of this assignment, he formed two companies: the Data Processing and R. K. Guthrie & Associates. In 1958 Bob traveled to Saudi Arabia where he was consultant to the Aramco Oil on computerized automation of oil recovery and production. returning, Bob was invited to present seminars at IBM Poughkeepsie, N. Y. for the benefit of petroleum engineers on the use of computers in the handling of oil production. He organized the financial empire of the late Tom Slick, Jr. and used those same accounting/processing methods to become a South Texas computing pioneer after Slick died in 2++3. He opened Date Processing one of the first businesses of its kind in San Antonio. Since USAA was not yet using their computers 24 hours a day, Bob officed with them and leased their computers during the second and third shifts. Data Processing center assisted numerous San Antonio companies, including H. B. Zachry, Pearl Brewery and Lone Star breweries in their move into the computer era. selling Data Process to the Frost Bank in the late 1960Âs, Bob worked in the medical field, assisting doctors and pathology laboratories with data processing automation. Bob had a great love for hunting, fishing and traveling, and became very active in the Sierra Club, serving as president of the Lone star Chapter. He loved to tell a good story, and had many to share: exciting travel adventures, business opportunities and war experiences. As a father, he instilled in his children a love of outdoors and great respect for the environment. He was a member of the American Petroleum Institute API and American Association of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers AIMME, the San Antonio Petroleum Club and various data processing associations. Bob was preceded in death by his father Fred Forrest Guthrie, mother Ruth Ellen Saunders and brother Forrest Eugene Guthrie. He is survived by his wife, Wardine Norvell Guthrie; son, William Keith Guthrie; daughter, Mary Ellen Wier and husband, Ronnie Wier; three grandsons, Bailey Wier, Zach Wier, and Casey Guthrie. He is also survived by a nephew, John Guthrie, of Dayton, Texas. Memorials may be made to Hospice or San Antonio Academy of Texas, Mission Road Development , or Charity of Choice.

She earned her BA and teaching degree from Texas Wesleyan , and her masters degree in counseling at North Texas State University in Denton. She received her doctorate in psychology from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Dr. Guthrie taught at Castleberry Elementary School, Sansom Park Elementary, and was a counselor at Robert E. Lee High School in Midland. From 1970-1987, she was a professor at Tarrant Junior , teaching psychology. Ouida enjoyed genealogy, history and traveling. She earned her pilots license in 1976. Ouida was lovingly known as Choo Choo to her dearest friends and family. She was preceded in death by her father, J.C., and her mother, Gertrude. Survivors: Brother, Jim and his wife, Marty, of Leadville, Colo.; niece, Christie Guthrie of Castle Rock, Colo.; and great-nephew, Ethan Carothers of Lake Worth.

Mr. Guthrie was born on 25, 1922 to M.M. Guthrie and Nellie Bailey Guthrie in Moody, TX. He had five sisters and one brother

courting for quite some time, he married the love of his life, Mary Anna Aycock on 24, 1942 while on leave from his duties as a Naval Aviator fighting in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.

Mr. Guthrie served our country with distinction during some of the fiercest battles of WWII with Torpedo Squadron Ten. His first two tours of duty, he flew from the U.S.S. Enterprise and a third tour from the U.S.S. Intrepid. During his distinguished service he was awarded the Navy Cross, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, a Gold Star in lieu of his second Air Medal, a Navy Unit Commendation, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

the war, he came home to his wife and baby daughter and started what would become an illustrious 32 year career with the Texas Department of Public Safety; starting in 1948 at Jacksonville, TX until he retired in 1980 as the Sergeant of Troopers for Lubbock and Crosby counties. Among his many accomplishments with the DPS, he helped the Secret Service provide security for three presidents which included Nixon, Johnson and Ford.

Mr. Guthrie is survived by his wife of 67 years; children: Paula Ann Schigut of Midland, Steve Guthrie of El Paso, Sharla Kay Doyle of Corona, California; nine grandchildren; six step grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and thirteen step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, one brother, and a daughter, Anita Jeanne Fulton.

He left many people behind with the realization that he is done with lifes pain and tribulations. We will miss his strong physical presence and his love for his family.
