Obituary: Mae Elizabeth Betty Robertson Gullickson 2/19/1927 - 10/27/2015 Betty was born to Mae Alberta Evans and John Alexander Robertson in Calgary and raised in Stettler, Alberta, Canada. In 1949 she married her husband, Waldo, who passed away in 2012. Betty and Waldo had two sons in Alberta, where they met, and a third son in Texas. A long-time resident of Houstons Nottingham Forest neighborhood, Betty lived previously in Richardson, Texas. Betty and Waldo lived in 42 places up and down the Canadian and American Rocky Mountains, though her heart was never far from Buffalo Lake near Stettler. The experience of living in the Southwest gave Betty an enduring love of the regions culture and wide-open landscapes-especially Shiprock Mountain and Bandelier in New Mexico. For many years she volunteered as a docent at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. In 1980, she was part of a group that assembled The Dinner Party at the University of Houston, which she attended. She appreciated collage, jazz, and good humor. Betty co-founded the Womens Forum at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. The class provided a venue for civic engagement and friendship. She also established a womens support group. becoming a U.S. citizen, she held -- to the best of anyones knowledge -- an unbroken record of voting for Democrats. She was a lifelong Canadian (and Texan) at heart. She joins her husband of 63 years, Waldo, and her brothers Douglas, Jack, and sister Pat. She is survived by her three sons and their families: Douglas Gullickson (Judith Streett), David Gullickson (Connie) and Grieg Gullickson (Julia); grandchildren: Emery Gullickson Richards (Neal), Clark Gullickson (Jessica), David Pfahler (Whitney), Cortney Parkhurst and Graham Gullickson; cherished nieces and nephews: John, Mark, Mary-Jane, Margaret Ann, Charles and David (Canadian Robertson Clan), Bonnie, Robert and Leslie (American Norton Clan); sisters-in-law: Juanita Norton and Norah Robertson; very special friends and magnificent caregivers. will all miss her spunk, encouragement, generous heart, strength and gentle touch. A memorial service will be held at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church on , 4 at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heifer International, the Kimbell Art Museum of Ft. Worth or the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. |

Obituary: Myra Irene Gulley, 74, passed away peacefully on 22, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was born on 4, 1938 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Paul Woodrow and Lillian Alice Southern Gulley. She was raised in Tulsa, graduating from Will Rogers High School, class of 56. Myra attended Oklahoma A&M and earned a degree in Pre-Law at University of Tulsa. While at the university she worked for the State of Oklahoma in adoption and foster care placement. The State of Oklahoma then granted her a stipend to attend Tulane University where she earned a Masters of Social Work Degree. She entered the U.S. Army in 1968 as a Captain, the third woman to serve in the Medical Service Corps. Her various assignments included Walter Reed, William Beaumont, Fitzsimmons, Ft. Benning, and Landstuhl, Germany. While stationed in El Paso she fought hard to become the first adoptive single parent in Texas. She retired from the Army at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1988 from Ft. Hood, Texas. Immediately after retirement she moved to San Antonio and started working to provide and oversee mental health contracts for all branches of the service. Later she worked part-time in two of her favorite jobs; adoption placement studies and follow-up for nearly 50 children from China and pastoral care at St. George Episcopal Church. Those who knew Myra will remember her for her wit and loving concern for other people above herself. These attributes were evident to the very end. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Paul Millard Gulley and David Phillip Gulley. She is survived by Sue Needham, her life partner of 29 years, her daughter Alisa Muller and her husband Edward Muller, her brother Stephen Gulley, sisters-in-law Patricia Gulley and Marylyn Gulley, nieces Mikalann Jenkins, Alison Gulley-Ryan, and Stefan Harris, her nephew Coleman Gulley and many great nieces and nephews.
