Obituary: Philip Alwin Guittard, 76, died 13, 2015 at his home in Victoria. Known for his sense of humor, he was indefatigable despite numerous and varied serious illnesses over the years. Philip was born on 30, 1939 in Victoria, Texas to Dixie Lynn Wood Guittard and Francis Gevrier Guittard, Jr., he spent the greater part of his life in Victoria. He was a graduate of Patti Welder High School, received an undergraduate degree in history from Baylor University in Waco, Texas and a master's degree in education from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. He was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Victoria. His professional life was as a teacher and counselor, having taught in Alice, Orange, San Angelo and Victoria. He met and married Beverly Smith in San Angelo, after returning with his wife to Victoria, he taught in both public and private schools and, after retiring, became a member of the Victoria City Council, serving three terms. He was active in the Democratic Party, serving as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. He devoted considerable time to historic preservation and to the public library. At the time of his death, he was chair of the Tom O'Connor Chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Beverly Smith Guittard. He is survived by his brother, Stephen Guittard of New York City and his wife, Helen Gulley Guittard; his niece, Stephanie Guittard Scigliano and her husband Gennaro Scigliano and their two children, Joseph and Elliana; his nephew, Francis Gevrier Guittard III of East Hampton, Long Island, New York and his wife Colleen DeBaise, his step-daughter, Debra Smith Edwards of Texarkana, Texas and her two sons, Kyle and Brad, and their families, as well as numerous cousins throughout Texas and various States. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, , 18, 2015 at Colonial . services will be held 10:00 am, , 18, 2015 at the Northside Baptist Church. Private graveside services to be held at a later date. Obituary: Dr Joseph Ray Guitreau passed peacefully into Eternal Rest with our Lord, surrounded by his loving family on 27, 2014 after a prolonged and courageous battle with synovial sarcoma. He is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years Patrice Firpo Guitreau and their two adoring children Audrey Claire and Jack Roman. He is also survived by his parents Joseph Ray Guitreau, Sr and Dixie Smith Guitreau, maternal grandmother Mabel Poirier Smith, and his siblings Dana Guitreau Favaro (and husband Michael Favaro), Andrew Guitreau, Stacie Guitreau (and almost brother-in-law Jeff Haynes) and Jim Guitreau (and wife Michelle Guitreau) in addition to numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Franklin Smith, and his paternal grandparents, Andrew Clodian Guitreau and Bernice Wascom Guitreau Wells. Joseph was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he attended Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School in his elementary years. He is a graduate of Catholic High School as well as Louisiana State University, also in Baton Rouge. Upon graduation from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, Joseph moved to Houston, Texas where he completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Baylor of Medicine which is where he met his future and beloved wife, Dr Patrice Firpo. Joseph pursued his love of teaching and learning and the practice of clinical medicine as an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Baylor of Medicine. He served as the Director of Anticoagulation for the Harris Hospital District as well as remaining an integral part of the teaching staff at Ben Taub General Hospital. Joseph will forever be remembered for his amusing and inspiring case presentations that were punctuated with pictures of family, pets and fish that he caught. His colleagues, residents and former students were particularly saddened when his illness prematurely ended his ability to teach in his very humble and effective manner. He will be missed by so many patients whom he touched. became lifelong friends, often sharing his love of fishing and the water. Joseph was much loved by his countless friends who often remarked Everyone loves Joe. His smile and sense of humor were appreciated daily. Joseph gave himself the moniker Honest Joe for his forthrightness. Earlier this year he was honored by Baylor as the first recipient of the Joseph R Guitreau MD award for the Consummate Physician. This award recognizes exemplary honesty, integrity and professionalism in General Internal Medicine. Although an incredibly hard worker, Joseph also enjoyed his free time; along with his family, fishing was his passion. He was most at peace on a boat, casting a rod and surrounded by his immediate and extended family on the water. Catching a fish was the icing on the cake for him. From his earliest years at Toledo Bend to his semi-annual fishing vacations in Grand Isle and his multiple boating and fishing magazine subscriptions, Joseph was a fisherman from start to finish, and loved nothing more than sharing that passion with his loved ones. Life for Joseph changed forever with the diagnosis of synovial sarcoma. Throughout his arduous treatments, he managed to entertain the physicians and staff with lively discussions about fishing, LSU football, Cajun cooking and all things Louisiana. People liked to imagine that if Joseph was cut, he would bleed purple and gold because of his strong love for his home state of Louisiana with its culture and values and his family. Joseph will therefore be laid to rest in his home of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Patrice, Audrey and Jack wish to express their true gratitude to their family and friends whose support and prayers provided strength through the very difficult times. We especially wish to thank our parents who tirelessly devoted themselves to our family and to Jim for sharing his bone marrow. We also wish to thank the numerous doctors and staff at MD Anderson Cancer for their care over the years. Obituary: William (Bill) E. Guite went to be with the Lord on 17, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dolores, and his daughter, Alicia Roberts. He is survived by four children, his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Aline Guite of Jacksonville, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Claudette and Richard Littlefield of Blue Ridge, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Adele and Craig Cameron of Chapin, SC; and daughter and son-in-law Diana and Rob Diederich of Katy, TX. He also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
