Obituary: Robert H. Guentherman, Jr., 49, was born 18, 1962 in Dallas, TX, to Karolyn K. and Dr. Robert H. Guentherman, Sr., and found Gods peace and rest on May 16, 2012 in Austin, TX, after a brief illness. Robert graduated form Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas. He attended Biola University, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Texas at Austin. Robert worked at the Internal Revenue Service for 26 ½ years, as a Tax Examiner, a Supervisor, a Functional Coordinator, a Program Analyst, and most recently as a Headquarters Analyst. Robert met Michael met at the IRS, first noticing him when they sat together while taking the Civil Service Test on 28, 1985. Their first day of work 1, 1985 was the beginning of their relationship and became the day they celebrated their anniversary. Over 26 years and in two houses, they raised two cats and nine dogs, mostly Doberman Pinschers. Gardening was something that Robert enjoyed, and their homes always had flowers and vegetables growing in the yard. Jars of tomatoes, pickles, and peach preserves became regular Christmas gifts for family and friends. From an early age, Roberts musical talents included playing the piano and singing. For many years, Robert watched Michael perform with the Austin Lyric Opera Chorus, and in 2002, after much prodding from Michael, Robert auditioned for the ALO Chorus. joining the ALO Chorus as a Bass, Robert appeared in 17 different opera productions together with Michael. Robert was also a member of the Capital City Mens Chorus, last appearing with them in their 2011 Christmas concert. At work, he was often asked to sing the Star Spangled Banner for employee events. For the past 16 years, Robert was a member of the Metropolitan Community Church in Austin, where he played in the chime choir, sang in the sanctuary choir, sang in the small vocal ensemble Ora Voce, sang in the Gospel Quartet Out-4-Joy, and sang duets with Michael. The preparation and consumption of food was another passion of Roberts. He was often found in the kitchen cooking some recipe that he had found, or perfecting a recipe of his own. For six years, from the raveling church days through MCCAs creation of a permanent church home, Robert and Michael lead the MCCA Food Ministry, providing amazing, delicious, culinary creations, not only for weekly church services, but also catering full meals for large anniversary dinners and church retreats of up to 250 people. Although a homebody, one of the things that Robert enjoyed was traveling. He, Michael, and their dogs often drove in their RV to the family cabin in Green Mountain Falls, CO for long vacations. Going on cruises, was another form of vacation that Robert enjoyed. He and Michael took cruises together to the Bahamas, Key West and the Caribbean. Some of their other favorite vacation spots were San Francisco, Seattle, & New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert H. Guentherman, Sr. He is survived by his beloved partner of 26 years, Michael Lucus and their three dogs, Ruby, Sable and Royal. He is also survived by his mother Karolyn; his sister Sharon and husband Roy Nelms; his sister Susan and husband Scott Swanner; his brother Mike and wife Carol Guentherman; aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Services will be 2:00pm, 16, 2012 at Metropolitan Community Church, 8601 South First Street, Austin, Texas, 78745, the Reverend Karen Thompson officiating. Robert was a colorful, larger than life person and his favorite color was red. In honor of Robert, if you feel comfortable doing so, please consider wearing red, or any other color from the rainbow flag, to his service.
