Obituary: Candyce Fear Griffin, 66, went to be with her Lord on 28, 2013, after losing her courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She joins her father and brother in paradise, along with many other loved ones. Her faith was strong throughout, and her theme from beginning to end was It is well with my soul. Candy, as she was known to everyone who loved her (which includes just about everyone who ever met her) always found the positive aspect of life and lived every day joyously. Her glorious smile was legendary. Family always came first with Candy, and she had a blessed childhood in a love-filled home provided by her parents Edgar A. Fear and Alford Fear. Her children, Nathan and Leslie, were everything to her, as was her beloved husband Tom, her precious grandson, Jacob, and Toms sweet grandchildren, Ian and Sarah. Candy had a lifelong love for learning and adventure, always combining the two in her travels, both here and overseas. She climbed through caves, went snorkeling on the reefs of Hawaii, walked on a glacier, ate meals with a family in France, watched the stars from an observatory, floated above the explosion of colorful fish in the Caribbean, anything that was new and adventurous. She loved the arts - plays, ballet, the symphony, opera, and museums of all kinds. She had also had a wide variety of other, more domestic, interests. She read extensively, and loved educational shows and documentaries on PBS. Her passions were knitting, sewing and gardening, and her many other interests included walking, attending estate and garage sales, and researching her familys ancestry. She was devoted to her church, Trinity Baptist, and along with husband Tom sang in the choir, delivered Meals on Wheels, and served on the Hurricane Response Team. Candy was born on 30, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated with honors from both Alamo Heights High School and Baylor University, majoring in Elementary Education and English, and earned a M.Ed. at Georgia State University. Her God-given gift was working with children, and she began her career in Newport News, Virginia, then Atlanta and Rockdale , Georgia. She was a force in integrating the staffs of schools in Newport News and Atlanta. Following marriage and children, she returned to teaching in Spring ISD in north Harris , where her fellow teachers named her Teacher of the Year. She eventually retired after 26 years of teaching. Candys home church was always Trinity Baptist and following retirement she was thrilled to return with husband Tom to San Antonio and Trinity. Candys faith in her Lord Jesus had her anticipating sweet times with loved ones who preceded her: her father, Edgar Ansel Fear in 2007 and her younger brother, Alan Curtis Fear in 2000. She will be missed by her beloved mother, A. Fear; her dear husband, Thomas W. Griffin; her two children, Nathan Alan Davis and Leslie Davis, both of Houston; her precious grandson, Jacob Alan Davis, of Plano; her cousin Sandra Simpson of Kerrville; Toms son, Eric and wife, Linda and dear grandchildren, Ian and Sarah and a multitude of other relatives and friends who sustained her with prayers and love, especially in her last days. Obituary: Reflections of Life, Calvin Anthony Griffin Calvin Anthony Griffin, affectionately known as Tony, was born to Lois and Calvin Griffin Jr. on 9, 1958 in Ft. Kobbe, Canal Zone Panama, and departed this life on May 24, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. He is preceded in death by his mother, brother Johnnie Thompson, and maternal and paternal grandparents. Tony accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Stephens Baptist Church San Antonio,Texas, under the leadership of Reverend L.C. Griffin. Tony completed his formal education in San Antonio, Texas and attended Sam Houston High School. He joined the United States Army where he worked and was trained in several specialty fields, medic, aircraft fire control, defense artillery operation flash intelligence NCO, and others. Tony last worked for the US Postal Service and enjoyed the people on his route. He touched peoples lives everywhere he went and everyone always had kind things to say about his smile, heart-filled laughter, his positive outlook, his knowledge of almost any subject, and photographic memory. He was a passionate and great debater! Tony loved sports, his Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and the Texas Longhorns. He knew all the players, their stats, and followed them voraciously. Tony leaves to mourn, his son Nicholas Griffin Sr. (Robynn), his three grandchildren, Shawn Evans, Nicholas Griffin Jr. and Nami Griffin. His Siblings, Maria (Charles) Nious, Ezell (Juanita) Griffin, Linda (Leon) Peterson, Larry (Vanessa) Griffin, Debra Griffin, Sonja (Jerry) Coburn, Richard Griffin, Jacqueline Clayton, Ulysses Griffin, Desi (Cynthia) Griffin; three aunts, Evelina Griffin, Clara Johnson and Constance Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was a mentor and adviser to his nieces and nephews; they had a special bond with their Uncle Tony. appreciate his love, generosity, his willingness to always help, his love of sports, his verse knowledge, and his storytelling. Obituary: Bruce Edward Griffin died peacefully in his sleep, 22, 2015, after several years of ill health. The first of four children of Bruce McConnell Griffin and Evelyn Wayne Griffin, Bruce was born 15, 1940, in Evanston, Illinois. He grew up in St. Charles, Illinois and graduated from Northwestern Military and Naval Academy in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where he was an outstanding athlete. In 2004, Bruce was recognized as an Honored Athlete by The Old Boys Alumni Association for his outstanding contributions to athletics at Northwestern Military & Naval Academy. graduating from Northwestern, he went on to attend the University of South Dakota before beginning a long sales career which culminated in a highly successful career with Aflac. There, Bruce won many sales awards and trips and continued to build his business until the time of his death. Bruce attended The Church on Rush Creek with his wife, Carolyn, where they formed many wonderful relationships that added tremendous joy to their lives. Bruce had a wonderful zest for living, loved people and was his happiest either with family or at a social event surrounded by music, laughter and fun people. He followed sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan. He also supported the University of Michigan football team, among others. It was not uncommon to find Bruce at home with one television tuned to a Cowboys game, another TV to a second sporting event and a radio to a third, all at the same time. Those who know him well will recall him pacing in front of the sets, talking to the televisions and radio, giving the teams directions. When he moved from Kansas City to Tarrant in the early 70’s, Bruce bought seat licenses at Texas Stadium for Cowboys games before he found a place to live. He took special delight in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and often spoke of them with great love to anyone who would listen. Bruce lived life on his own terms and his motto very easily could have been, “I did it my way.” He lived life to the fullest and his adventurous spirit took him down many interesting paths. He often remarked that he had no regrets. Friends and family know that his love of life, family and strong faith sustained him through many ups and downs. He was resilient beyond belief. In later years when Bruce faced major health challenges, he met them head-on with the unwavering support and love of his wife, Carolyn, daughter, Hillary, other family members, friends and the help of gifted physicians and therapists. While the shock of Bruce’s sudden passing hit his family and friends hard, we are grateful his death was peaceful and that he is finally home with his Savior and all of his loved ones who went before him. We know, without a doubt, there was a very joyful reunion in heaven on morning when Bruce arrived. “Grieve not, nor think of me with tears, but laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you. Vice President/ Secretary of the PBA since 2013. Brad has been a member of the PBA since 2006. Brad was a loving, husband, father, son and friend and will be greatly remembered by all that knew him. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Dianna Griffin; daughter, Teresa; son, Kevin; granddaughter, Jazmin (Itty Bitty); mother, Shirley; 4 doggies, Buddy, Yoda, Obi Wan and Chewi. He was preceded in death by his father, John; brothers, Reid on 31, 2013 and Wade on 9, 2015. Memorial services will be held 1:00pm, 14, 2015 at Town North Presbyterian Church, 1776 N. Plano Rd., Richardson, TX 75081. A catered reception will follow the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Brad can be made to ALS Foundation, alsa.org |
