Obituary: Jimmie Laura Gorton 09/02/25-07/24/15 Jimmie Gorton, of Houston, TX slipped into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on 24, 2015 at the age of 89. Jimmie is preceded in death by her husband, Dan, her firstborn son, Dan Jr., and her Grandson, Justin Smith. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Mary Gorton, wife of Dan Jr., and the children, Mick Gorton and wife Nancy, Becky Smith and husband Eldon, Laurie Dyer and Husband Doyle, 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Jimmie was born in DeLeon, TX to Neuma and Hattie Young. She had a tumultuous childhood and left home at an early age. Although she had to drop out of school to go to work, education and life-long learning remained important to her. She was very well read and developed many creative talents including gourmet cooking, sewing and gardening. In august of 1946, Jimmie met Dan Gorton, the love of her life, while riding horses in Hermann Park. were married on 5, 1946. Over the following years they welcomed four children into their home: Dan Jr., Mickey, Becky, and Laurie. Together, they taught their children to love the Lord, the value of hard work and education, compassion toward others, and most importantly, how to have fun and live life to the fullest. Their home was filled with laughter and creative pursuits. As the children grew older, Jimmie continued her education, receiving her GED and graduating from Houston Baptist University with a BA in Elementary Education and Psychology and a Masters in counseling. She taught school for one year before being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1977. Even though the surgery left her with life-long limitations, it never slowed her down! Amazingly, she not only survived, but she continued to thrive, organizing a local chapter of the Acoustic Neuroma Association. Church membership was very important to Jimmie and Dan. The family was very active at Sharpstown Baptist Church were Jimmie was the church secretary. Jimmie was currently a member of the Gospel Truth Bible Study Class at Second Baptist Church Woodway location. Her husband passed away in 1994 and Jimmie lived on her own until May of this year. a series of illnesses, Hospice was called in and she spent the rest of her days at her daughter's home. Jimmie will be remembered as an amazing woman with an incredible faith in the Lord that carried her through her life here on earth and was passed on to her children and grandchildren. Obituary: Mary Ellen Williams Gortemiller, 88, passed away on 4, 2015 in Houston, Texas. She was born on 21, 1927 in Pine Ridge, Arkansas to Jim Williams and Eddie Philpot. On 5, 1943, she married William Henry Bud Gortemiller of Opal, Arkansas. Together they reared three children, Patsy Ann (John) Herron, Gale Wayne Gortemiller and William Randy (Sue) Gortemiller, who provided her with four grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Mary Ellen was a beautiful and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She stayed at home and cared for home and family until the youngest was 17 years old. She then worked in electronic assembly until retirement. Mary Ellen resided in a memory care facility for more than four years. Her daughter, Patsy Ann (John) Herron and granddaughter, Natalie Ann (Eric) Dolan visited her often and took her items she needed for her comfort. also picked her up so that she could share family occasions. Mary Ellen is survived by one loving sister, Jimmie Carolyn (Wayne) Tabor of stead, Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, her son Randy, Randys wife Sue, grandson, Jeffery Gortemiller and nephew, Ronnie Tabor. Mary Ellen and husband, William Henry Bud Gortemiller will be interred in the wall at Houston National at a later date. Memorials can be donated to Alzheimers research or breast cancer research. |

Obituary: Phyllis J. Gorsuch was called home to be with the LORD on 6, 2016 at 80 years of age. Phyllis lived a long and productive life who honored GOD in every action. She was a quiet, humble, and always positive soul that spent much of her life caring for others as a nurse in the Methodist Hospital System for more than 30 years. She spent her time going to church, volunteering, working on crafts, sewing, reading every mystery novel she could find, and spending time with her family for every holiday, birthday, and barbecue. Obituary: We remember with joy Nan Gorsuch, who passed away peacefully on , 20, 2017 at home with her friends and family. She was born 2, 1936 to Jamie Coleman Burnette and Freda Carroll Burnette in Haynesville, Louisiana. growing up in the Houston area, she met and married James (Jim) Gorsuch in 1962. , with their two boys, Rob and Tom, moved to Lake Jackson in 1968. Nan was a welcoming hostess with an infectious laugh and a servants heart. She, with her husband and friends, made many contributions to the Brazosport area, including being a charter member of Junior Service League, a founding member of the Womens Lecture Luncheon Series, an active member of the Agape School Class at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, a supporter of Society of St. Stephen, a charter member of Chapter FW of P.E.O., as well as serving as discussion leader of Bible Study Fellowship, teaching school and other roles at Chapelwood UMC, president of JSL, and also serving in many leadership roles over her more than 40 years in P.E.O. During her college years at the University of Houston, Nan pledged Chi Omega and remained active in her sorority through most of her life. In addition to her grandchildren, Nan loved to travel with her friends and family, to read, and to conquer crossword puzzles and Wheel of Fortune challenges. She also used her time and energy to encourage others and to help people in countless and myriad situations. One of her most used sayings was, I can do that in response to anothers request for help. Nan will be missed by her surviving husband, Jim Gorsuch of Lake Jackson, her son Rob Gorsuch and daughter-in-law Gwynn Hanmer Gorsuch of Houston, Tom Gorsuch of Houston, as well as her beloved grandchildren who called her Nana: Jackson Gorsuch, Tyler Gorsuch, Claire Gorsuch, Michael Gorsuch, Katherine Gorsuch, and Caroline Gorsuch, all of Houston. Her family will miss her laughter, her hugs, her gentle jokes (usually at her own expense), her unflagging support, as well as her fun and loving nature. Nan was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Sonny Burnette. During 2017, Nan and Jim celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary and the high school graduation of their eldest grandchild. Her death was unexpected as this year began, and she handled her sudden illness with dignity, grace and unselfishness. arrangements are being handled by Restwood , on Plantation Drive. Obituary: James Lee Gorsuch, a loving husband, father, and son, passed away , May 30, 2013. He was born on 27, 1953 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to E.L. and Ethel Gorsuch. Jim attended Texas Tech University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in May of 1975 and Texas Tech University School of Law and earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence in May of 1978. He married the love of his life, Joy, on 17, 1984. While establishing his private practice, Jim was respected by his peers for the character of his work. He supported the community by serving as the President of Marion Moss Enterprises (1984 - 1992) and the President, Treasurer, and member of the Board of Directors for The Volunteer of Lubbock (1993 - 2013). Jim was a member and chairman of the Lubbock Civil Service Commision (1985 - 1991) and a member of First Christian Church. He loved Texas Tech, football, and traveling. His favorite destination was Las Vegas, but he loved any vacation with his family. Above all, he valued family and integrity. Jim was preceeded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joy, his son, David, his daughter Lynn and husband Tony Hartsfield, and his brother, Doug, of Sun Valley, Idaho. Obituary: Dr. Paul LeRoy Gorsuch, (USN), age 91, of San Antonio, Texas entered peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on , 1, 2011. Dr. Gorsuch was born on the family homestead on 4, 1920, in Lusk, Wyoming, in the middle of a blizzard. He grew up in Pennsylvania and New Jersey during the Depression, part of a large family who were hard-working craftsmen, homebuilders and ranchers. He worked his way through college as a dishwasher, tutor, bookbinder and bartender. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Delta theta, Tau Kappa Alpha, Omicron Delta kappa, Editor in Chief of Dickinson paper, German club, Debate squad and Whos Who in American s 1939-1940. He graduated at the top of his class at Dickinson , majoring in biology. acceptance into Jefferson Medical WWII broke out and he signed up to be a navy pilot. When he told his mother, she told him he had worked hard to get into medical school, and flying was not an option. Graduating from Jefferson Medical in 1944 he began his navy career. He arrived on a troop transport ship the night before the invasion of Iwo Jima. During the next 19 days he and his fellow shipmates operated on over 600 soldiers and lost only 6 men. He remembers watching the US Marines raise the flag on Mt. Suribachi. He was very proud to have been a combat surgeon and it made an indelible mark on him. Dr. Paul spent the next years in residencies and fellowships in Washington D.C., Brooklyn, Arizona, and Univ. of Pennsylvania, before settling in San Antonio, meeting his wife Evelyn, and starting a family in 1948. He was a Fellow of the American Board of Surgeons, President of San Antonio Surgical Society and Medical Advisor to Southwestern Bell. He was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon Gorsuch; his mother, Inez Berggren Gorsuch, his father Benjamin Franklin Gorsuch; his brother, Benjamin Franklin Gorsuch Jr, and his beloved wife, Evelyn Jedlicka Gorsuch. Survivors include his five siblings: Betty Lou Drewes of Oregon, Leslie L. Gorsuch of Wyoming, Gloria Burgess of Pennsylvania, Helen Marie Kidd of Indiana, and Kathryn Joan Allen of New Mexico; daughters Elizabeth Gorsuch of Missouri, Ellen Amundson of Colorado, and Dr. Paul L. Gorsuch, Jr. of Montana; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 17 nieces and nephews. A beloved husband and father, an accomplished surgeon, pilot, historian, traveler, he was a friend to his patients and many became his friends.
