Obituary: Sandra Joy Giles, 68, passed away on 24, 2015. Sandi was born in Ithaca, NY on 30, 1946, the daughter of Peter Piech and Frances Rita Piech (Becker). Sandi was the person who could light up a room. When you came in, you could always find her surrounded by others and engaged in conversation. She was tall and beautiful and loved to be with people. She lived to travel, go to concerts, have parties and be with her grandchildren. She could talk to anyone and formed lasting friendships easily. Following High School, she raised two daughters and had a 12 year career working at Cornell University in the main computer center. leaving Cornell and Ithaca, she continued her education in Boulder and Denver, CO earning a BA in Journalism and Public Relations at Metropolitan State University. She worked as a writer and project manager in Denver, then married John Giles and subsequently moved to Southern California and continued her writing career. She then formed her own company, The Write Connection, which grew rapidly, and became one of the leading technical documentation companies in Orange . She served as Chapter President of the Society of Technical Communicators, STC, in Orange , one of the largest chapters in the country. She led that organization to many achievements and awards and represented the chapter in national conferences. She is survived by her husband, John Giles; two daughters: Carolynne Griffin of Georgetown,TX and Colleen Carr of Pensacola, FL; a stepson, Chris Giles of Encinitas, CA; two granddaughters: Elle Griffin of Sao Paulo, BZ and Brionne Griffin of Arlington, VA; her sister, SalleAnne; brother, Martin; and numerous nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on , 1, 2015 at Ramsey . 5600 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78633. A reception will follow the service in the Reception Hall of Ramsey . Obituary: Robert Giles passed away peacefully on 21, 2009 to be with his Lord and Savior. Son of John H. and Cora Brown Giles he was born 15, 1922, reared and educated in San Antonio at old George W. Brackenridge High School. He later attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln on military orders and was granted the bachelors degree with honors by Trinity University while in military service. During a long life he served widely in the components of the United States Army; its Reserve; the Texas and District of Columbia National Guard forces, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel while detailed in the Army Staff, Washington. His World War II duty involved decorated service in the Ninth Army Civil Affairs Staff of San Antonios General William Simpson and later in the Frankfurt and Berlin Civil Affairs Staffs of General Lucius DuB. Clay, U.S. Military Governor of Occupied Germany. He retired in 1982 after over 31 years combined military service but was recalled in 1991 during the First Gulf War. With the United States Air Force as a Civil Servant, he served in various A.F. General Officer Staffs in the field of military history. In civilian life he was a trained and educated Texas municipal government worker in city and regional planning and in City management fields and associated with various Texas City governments including Midland. Mr. Giles worked in private business in Houston where he was an active figure in a major Houston civic organization serving as a director. He taught in several colleges in Houston and Washington D.C. and served in many of the secondary schools of most San Antonio school districts. He was a long-term member of Texas City Management Association, of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States, the National Guard Association of the United States; a Master Mason in various San Antonio Masonic Lodges; Deacon of the Baptist Temple Church; President of the Highland Park Neighborhood Association; San Antonio Conservation Society; Society of the Preservation of Historic Fort Sam Houston; Boy Scout Adult Leader, Troop 22; former Bexar Democratic Party Executive Committeman. Mr. Giles graduated from The American Universitys Masters degree program in government and the University of Chicago with a doctorate, also in government and in other social sciences and took the Masters program in city/regional planning of the University of Texas Austin. He is survived by niece, Claire Diane Blackwood of San Antonio and Ottawa, Canada; great niece and nephew, Marjorie Schelling and Harry Blackwood of Canada; two great grand nephews, also of Canada and the many friends and neighbors of a long life. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Judge John P. Giles and by Marjorie Groce and Mary Langley Giles, and Sisters-in-law. Pastor Gary Bradley officiating. Obituary: ROBERT C. GILES, age 82, passed away , 5, 2010, in Houston. He was born 23, 1928, in Silsbee, TX, to Wilbert and Carrie Giles. Bob received his Bachelors Degree, in 1952, from of St. Thomas, in St. Paul, MN, and went on to receive a Masters in Journalism, from The University of Texas, in 1954. Bob was proud to serve his county first in the Army, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, then later in the Air Force Reserve. Beginning in 1966, he began a thirty-two year long career with The Texas Catholic Herald, a newspaper of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. It was commonly believed that he was the first African American in the United States to be employed by the Catholic Press. While reporting at the Herald, Bob taught journalism, part-time, at Texas Southern University, for over twenty years. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, David Giles, Wilbert Giles, Jr., Ulysses Giles, Leola Ewing, and Mildred Harris. He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores M. Giles; nephews, Alfred Pickens and Benny Brown, Sr.; and nieces, Pamela R. Brown, Mary Scott-Wring, and Bonnie Dickie; and numerous great-nephews and nieces.
