Obituary: If you ever saw James Cagney or John Garfield in the 30s, you knew Buddy Garcia. He was the guy they played - Mans man, Ladies man, Family man, and Great friend. Born in Houston and raised in Galveston, Buddy grew up in the rough and tumble 30s, selling newspapers by age 8. He graduated from Ball High in 1942 and joined the Army where he became the Army Lightweight Boxing Champion of the World, and went on to coach the Army Boxing Team. the war, in 1945, he became a professional boxer and rose to #2 in the world with 67 fights, (60-3-4). He headlined often in Madison Square Garden, where stars such as Al Jolson, Joe E. Lewis, Phil Harris and Alice Faye, were frequent ringside fans. He stayed involved in sports throughout his life, and went to nearly every Final Four and Super Bowl. Just like the movies, the boxer met model Jeanne Fenn, from Dallas, on an arranged date in Galveston in 1947. didn see each other again until a year later, when Jeanne was modeling in New York and Buddy was training for a fight. Then, they literally bumped into each other on a crowded night in Times Square, married 3 weeks later, and stayed married 67 years until his death. Buddy was a giver who left everyone he met with a smile and a compliment, and never met a stranger. He loved people, poker, family cruises, country music, sports, animals, and Galveston but, most of all, he loved his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jeanne and their two dogs, Chewy and Chica; daughter Debbie Garcia Aiello and her husband Joe; granddaughter Ashley Aiello Prieto and her husband Rick; granddaughter Lindsay Aiello Dickerman and her husband, Rick; great-grandson Logan Dickerman; niece Mickey Coats, of Austin, and her family, Buster, Courtney and Taylor; nephew Damon Francis, of Ontario CA; nephew Rob Villarreal and wife Aimee of Dallas; and hundreds of other family members and friends who will never forget the Champ. Buddys favorite expression was Have no fear - Garcias here. To those of us who loved him, he still is. A memorial service and reception will be held for Buddy on , 10, at 3 pm at Heights , 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston, TX 77008. Obituary: Robert Garcia, Jr, age 65, passed away , 5, 2015. Robert was born 3, 1950 in Robstown, Texas to the late Roberto and Pauline Garcia. relocated to Abilene when Robert was one year old. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1969. He was a loving big brother to his five siblings and his courage, compassion and guidance will be greatly missed. On 11, 1977, Robert married Yolanda De Luna in Robstown. He worked as a Communications Technician at AT&T for 30+ years. Robert was a weekend farmer and enjoyed being outdoors. When he and Yolanda were not traveling, Robert could be found riding his Harley motorcycle or out back grilling some big, juicy burgers. He was a very faithful and loving friend to countless people, always willing to lend a hand. His greatest love in life was being with his wife Yolanda, his son Mike, daughter- in-law Robin, and his two grandsons, Zander and Ryder. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Roberto and Pauline Garcia and brother-in-law, John Resch. Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Yolanda De Luna Garcia; son and daughter-in-law, Mike B. and Robin Garcia of Abilene; grandchildren, Zander and Ryder Garcia; brothers, Ruben Garcia and wife Rosie of North Richland Hills, TX and Richard Garcia of Abilene; sisters, Yolanda Resch of Houston, Olga Chacon and husband Gilbert of Abilene and Dilly Garcia of Abilene, and Vicki De Luna of Austin who he considered a daughter. Visitation will be held 6 pm to 8 pm (today), 8, 2015 at the Elliott-Hamil , 5701 Hwy 277 South. Services will be 10 am , 9, 2015 at the Elliott-Hamil with Pastor Chris De Luna officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories .
