Obituary: Nina Ruth Short Gammill was born in Stanford TX on 22, 1915 and passed away in Lubbock on 26, 2013. Nina was the only child of Alfred and Lilah Short and grew up on a farm in Meadow TX. She went to Meadow High School where she played basketball under the nickname of Shorty. It was on that court she met a young man named James R. Gammill who was refereeing games for extra money so that he could attend Texas Tech. Soon they were a couple and after they both graduated from Tech they were married on Christmas morning, 1939. Nina loved sports of all kinds and many times had 2 TVs and a radio going at one time. If you were busy, you could always call her for the score on the big game. She was a fixture at all Tech football and basketball games and for many years she never missed a home game. She will be greatly missed and talked about for many years to come. Nina is survived by a daughter, Shirley Caron and husband Ed and Shirleys children Trisha Graham, Mark Graham and his wife Jessica and their daughter, Mikayla, all of Boise Idaho; son, Jimmy Gammill and wife, Claudia of Lubbock and their son Paxton Mitchell of Midland. Nina was always young at heart and ready to go. Her family would like to thank Dr. Andy Gray and his staff for many years of care; the ladies at the Beauty Shop for her standing appointment to get my hair fixed, the Millers next door for always being there, and last the wonder people at Carillon House for making sure she was comfortable and seen about these last few months.
