Obituary: It is with great sadness and joy that we announce the passing of Tony William De Groot. Sadness because he has left us and joy because he is now with the Lord. Tony, at the young age of 80, passed away in a plane accident while on a fishing trip in Alaska. He was doing what he loved. The youngest of 11 siblings, Tony was raised in Bennekom, the Netherlands. During WW II, his family was involved with the Dutch Resistance and he was impressed with the bravery of the American soldiers. At the age of 21, Tony decided to immigrate to the United States. He and his fiancée, Betty, were married May 15, 1957 in Hollandale, Minnesota. moved to southern California in 1959 and five years later they began what is now a successful dairy farm operation in the Central Valley. Tony and Betty are the loving parents of: Ingrid and John Hamar; Elizabeth and Don Veenendaal; Tony and Rochelle De Groot; William and Allyson De Groot; Tamara Majors; and Willy Arts. have 32 grandchildren including spouses and 14 great-grandchildren. Tony loved God fiercely. He was a founding member of Visalia Christian Reformed Church, in 1965. He enjoyed singing in the choir as well as leading song service. Tony was a youth group leader for many years and hosted Bible studies with Betty in their home. He was an example to his family, teaching them about living out their faith in Jesus Christ. Tony was very passionate about Betty and the life they created together. adored each other's company in the simplest of ways. Together, they enjoyed watching the sunrise and sunset as well as watching the hummingbirds while having breakfast. Tony loved all his children, no matter the age, and treasured each moment he spent with them. For many years, Tony was involved in and supported the dairy farm community. He loved sharing his knowledge of the Ag industry and served with Rabobank, Alltech, and numerous boards. Tony considered his business contacts as close friends. He was a role model and enjoyed sharing his faith with anyone. He also fulfilled Bettys dream of owning a horse, and eventually developed DG Bar Ranch with his partner, Willy Arts. Tony had a way of making everyone feel special. He was known for spending hours in the cafe cooking and baking up a storm; generously sharing hospitality with all who entered his life. Tony had a sense of adventure to live his life to the fullest until the moment God brought him home. We are blessed to have had such a great husband, dad, and Opa. His legacy will live on in all of us. Visitation will be held on , 22, 2015 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia. Obituary: To Theodora De Groot, the entire world was a stage. An expressive, optimistic, and uninhibited individual, she was a performer in the theater of life. To everyone around her, she seemed to be eternally happy, and she willingly shared that joy with anyone whose life she touched. For Theodora, bringing out the best in any situation was as easy as offering a smile, a witty remark or the twinkle of an eye. And with just those simple gestures, she could evoke the most pleasant of emotions. Theodora really mastered the art of living and had great fun in doing so. Her parents were John and Cornelia Koning. Even as a child, Theodora had the ability to lift the spirits of all those around her. She was raised to be warm, caring and friendly. She couldn help but capture everyones attention. She was definitely a little bit of a show off, but in doing so, she succeeded in entertaining her entire family. Always a good playmate, Theodora was easygoing and fun loving. She managed to lighten the mood wherever she was, even during family squabbles. She seemed to have a knack for bringing compromise and erasing tense situations around the house. Due to a generous dose of common sense, Theodora managed to find a satisfying solution to basic problems. Theodora was raised with three siblings. She had one older sister, Dora and two younger sisters, Cora and Mary. All of Theodoras playful good humor carried over into her childhood. She was possessed with an outgoing personality, a lively imagination and a mellowed enthusiasm for life that allowed her to be constantly on the go. As a result, Theodora experienced a rather active childhood, and this suited her very well. She took part in bike riding. She was a member of the theater club. Ask anyone who knew her from school and they would tell you that Theodora was a class cut-up. She didn do it to be unkind or to garner all the attention. Rather, Theodora simply enjoyed others laughter and the sounds of her friends and acquaintances having a good time. It could be said that for Theodora, grades may not have been the most important thing to her, but she really did enjoy her school experience. Since experience was Theodoras best teacher. She enjoyed hands-on learning and applying the practical approach to knowledge, rather than getting caught up in heory. Her favorite class in high school was homemaking. The gift of being emotionally expressive and outwardly affectionate made Theodora very easy to approach. On 12, 1944 Theodora exchanged wedding vows with Jacob De Groot at the City Hall of Sheidam Holland. She tried hard not to impose on her spouse. She was always sensitive to other peoples feelings, and that was especially true in marriage. Perhaps the reason Theodora related so well to children was the fact that she never really completely grew up herself. The ability to be just a kid at heart helped her in raising her own children. Theodora was blessed with four children, four daughters, Theodora, Johanna, Geraldine and Connie. were also blessed with sixteen grandchildren, Loren, Tina, Sheila, Brandi, Ireine, Ginny, Michelle, Elissa, Michael, Billy, Melissa, Christopher, Joshua, Jenny, Tyler and Lindsay. Theodora had the ability to focus her attention on the present moment. If she was spending time with the kids, thats where all of her attention was directed. Theodoras compassionate side prevented her from being a strict disciplinarian, and she could turn just about any situation into a playful, learning experience. She could spend hours entertaining them with fun and creative play. In fact, Theodora had a knack for turning some of those nasty old chores into games. At work, as in life, Theodora was a real people person. she had a very successful way of dealing effectively with others, and her enthusiasm and energy was often contagious. Theodora liked to see herself as something of a virtuoso. When dealing with various projects and problems, Theodora was an adaptable realist, using her common sense and trusting her experiences and impulses to uncover the correct answer. Theodoras talent for being a down to earth thinker, allowed many around her to see Theodora as an excellent problem solver. Her primary occupation was a homemaker for 65 years. Vested with a deep concern for spiritual development, Theodora recognized that her faith was important to her throughout her life. She was a member of the Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Beaumont, California. Living life in the fast lane suited Theodora just fine. It is no surprise that she loved to travel and to visit new and different places. She was naturally curious about other parts of the world and loved the real life adventure that came from visiting them. She was impulsive and willing to try anything once. Favorite vacations included touring Holland. Theodora was a lover of animals and cherished her pets, enjoying them almost as much as she enjoyed being around other people. Theodoras favorites were her Yorkshire Terriers, Rosie and Pepsi. She was best friends with Pepsi for 16 years and Rosie for 8 years. Theodora passed away on 24, 2010 at her home in Banning, California. Theodora died of natural causes. She is survived by her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A Mass was held on , 3, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church 1234 Palm Avenue, Beaumont, CA 92223. A viewing was held on , 2, 2010 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Weaver Mortuary Chapel 1177 Beaumont Avenue, Beaumont, CA 92223. Theodora was laid to rest in Mt. Obituary: John Allison Groot, 10, 1928 - 3, 2016 Among so many things, John was one who loved being outdoors, running, skiing and gardening, a professor and teacher who himself also loved to learn, and a man whose heart was always full of a passion for music. To Phoebe, his wife of fifty-plus years, he was a faithful and loving husband, standing by her side through thirty years of coping with her disability. He was a patient father, listening to Carl and Alison throughout their lives, instructing through both his words and his example. During the early years of marriage, the Groot family moved to Germany where John and Phoebe took administrative and teaching positions in schools for children of those in the military. These years abroad introduced them to new cultures through their music and folk-dancing and opened the eyes of their children to a bigger world. The family later moved to Syracuse, NY, where following Johns grad studies at SU, he then taught both high school and then college chemistry up through his retirement in 1991. He had much joy in teaching. The music hread was always a key part of Johns life. An appreciator of so many genres of music, he also loved to play both sax and clarinet in host of different groups playing jazz, or classical, and in the worship band at Lifebridge Church. John was a God-fearing person through his whole life, though it wasn until his later years that his faith came alive and he unpacked the reality of what it meant to be a follower of Jesus. This gave to him a new way to both see and understand the complex and troubled world we live in and a hope for life and eternity with God. The Lifebridge Church community had a significant role in Johns commitment to Christ and growth in his faith. Phoebe passed away halfway through the San Diego years, and though despite the difficulties, this was mostly a good chapter of their life together. During this chapter, John was enthusiastic about freshly connecting with family across the country, making two circuitous road trips across America just to touch down and see everyone. I smile to picture him playing his horn on his travels, as he did sometimes following a day of driving, in some lonely, beautiful desert spot. John is survived by his younger brother S. Robert Groot, his daughter Alison and her family, and his son Carl and his family. He was Gung-Gung to seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
