Obituary: COLUMBIA Graveside service for Roland Elmore Geddings, 93, will be held at 10:00 a.m. , 15, 2014, in Ft. Jackson National . The family will receive friends from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. at Dunbar , Devine Street Chapel, prior to the graveside service. Mr. Geddings died , 11, 2014. Born in West Columbia, he was a son of the late Saint Julian and Eva Irene Dyson Geddings. A U.S. Army veteran, he retired from DuPont in Aiken as a machine shop foreman. He previously worked at the nuclear plant in Los Alamos, NM, where he assisted in making the first atomic bomb. A talented workworker, he created a miniature kitchen of a log cabin which is on permanent display at the State Museum, where he was a life member. In addition, he built a miniature replica of an antique fire engine that is on display at the Laurel Street Fire Station, where he was an honorary firefighter. He was a member of Columbia Baptist Tabernacle and was a past master of Aiken Mason Lodge #156. Surviving are his daughter, Sandra Phillips of Edgefield; four grandchildren, Joyce Johnson, Steven, David, and Billy Phillips; three great-grandchildren; his caregiver, Cindi Hoffman of Columbia; and his best friend and co-worker, Russell Pound. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Odom Geddings and several brothers and sisters. |

Obituary: Mary Blakely Geddings, 85, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Ernest Geddings, entered into eternal rest , 3, 2015. Her Service will be held , 7, 2015, in Bethany United Methodist Church, James Island, 1853 Maybank Hwy., at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Holy Cross . The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel. Mary (known to all those who loved her as Floopie) was born 11, 1929 in Lane, South Carolina, daughter of Thomas Alexander Blakely and Rheta Derrick Blakely. She attended Coker . As a longtime active member of Bethany United Methodist Church, she served on the flower guild and prayer chain committees, as well as on the Board of Trustees and was the memorial secretary for many years. She was a member of the Mae Taylor Circle and Dot Murden School class at Bethany. She was also a longtime member of the James Island Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary. Floopie was a lifelong bridge player and enjoyed her weekly bridge games with her two very special long standing bridge clubs. She was a devoted wife and mother who always put her family, friends and church first. She loved cooking for those she loved and was very involved in her daughters activities, serving as a room mother and booster club member for many years and an avid supporter of her daughters sports teams. Floopie never met a stranger and was a second mother to so many. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Rheta Geddings DiNovo and her husband, Gus, of Charleston, SC and her grandsons, Dominic Joseph Cella DiNovo and Thomas Ernest DiNovo. Memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 1853 Maybank Hwy., James Island, SC 29412. |
