Obituary: Spiro Goumas, 87, passed away 7, 2015. He was born in Akron, Ohio on 14, 1927 where he attended Buchtel High School. He was a WWII veteran as a result of being drafted by the US Army Air Force in 1945 and serving until being honorably discharged in 1947. Following his service he attended the University of Akron and in 1951 graduated with a BA in Business Administration. Spiro was a lifelong server to his beloved wife Joanne, his family, his church, his community, his many business endeavors and the countless friends from all walks of life throughout Northeast Ohio and beyond. His family roots were in restaurants and the restaurant equipment business. He worked with his family in the Ohio Store Fixture company which was responsible for providing restaurant equipment and services to many of Akrons well known establishments such as the Tangier and Diamond Grill from the 1940s to 1980s. Subsequent to Ohio Store Fixture he supported urban redevelopment projects that ultimately led him to supporting and leading the creation and development of the International Exposition (I-X) in Brookpark, Ohio. As a lifelong servant to the community, Spiro was active in many, many civic and faith based organizations his entire adult life. Most recently he was working with Gennesaret in addition to serving on outreach missions at First Congregational Church in Akron, Ohio. Spiro believed and demonstrated through his life works that all people are created equally by God and should be universally accepted. He prided himself on working with people from all faiths and sharing his infectious positive attitude upon each and every one he met. He truly made an positive impact on most everyone he had contact with. If you asked him how he was doing he would let you know that every day he celebrated his birthday. He will be missed by many. Proceeded in death by wife Joanne, brothers Jim, Frank, and Andy and sister Calipso (Clip). He is survived by sisters Mary and her husband George Mitchell, Caliope (Cal) Kody, and sister-in-law Helen Goumas; son Pete and his wife Jennifer; daughter Kate Breth and her husband Mike. Grandchildren Kayla and Rachel Goumas and Nick and Tyler Breth. Friends may call at a celebration gathering on 15 from 3 to 6:30pm at First Congregational Church of Akron at 292 E. Market St., Akron which will be immediately followed by a Memorial Service. A private family burial at Rose Hill will precede the celebration. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Congregational Church or to Gennesaret, Inc. at PO Box 1253 Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223. Gennesaret is a non-profit organization that houses and feeds the poor in Akron. |

Obituary: Joanne Goumas (nee George), 80, passed away 13, 2013. She was born in Massillon, Ohio on 12, 1932 where she attended Washington High School and where her family owned the Massillon Sugar Bowl for over 50 years. She also graduated from Kent State University, was an avid tennis player and supported her community and family her entire life. Preceded in death by brother, Jim, she is survived by her husband of 57 years, Spiro; son, Pete and his wife Jennifer; daughter Kate Breth and her husband Mike. Grandchildren Kayla and Rachel Goumas and Nick and Tyler Breth. She is also survived by her extended Goumas and George families and many friends. A memorial service and celebration will be held at First Congregation Church of Akron at 292 E. Market St, Akron, Ohio. Date and time of memorial service , 12, 2013 at 11:00 am. Following the service a reception wil be hosted by her loving family. |

Obituary: Elaine M. Goulet, 69, of Lima, passed away at 6:00 a.m., , 19, 2016, in her residence surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy. She was born to the late Gerard and Lucille (Plasse) Morin on 30, 1947 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. On 23, 1966, she married Richard Goulet who survives in Lima. She was the love of his life and they would have been married fifty years next month. She is also survived by her sister, Diane Taylor of Lincoln, RI; four daughters: Laurie (Goulet) Milano of Wapakoneta, Lisa (Kelly Basham) Shafer and Lynne (Michael) Vieira both of Lima and Stacey (Randy) Hoover of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Gerry (Tracy) Goulet of Wapakoneta; fifteen grandchildren: Brianna and Zachary Milano, Cortney (Mitch) Hooks, Amanda Fox, Evan Shafer, Ashlynn, Adam and Abby Vieira, Leah (Matt) Fincher, Jazmine Bradshaw, Gabby Graber, Landon Hoover, Taylor, Collin and Braeden Goulet; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, George Desaulniers, and her husbands parents, Paul and Grace Goulet. Mrs. Goulet attended Lima Missionary Baptist Church. She was formerly employed at New Vision Medical Laboratories as a medical transcriptionist; at St. Ritas Medical in the medical records department; and at the former Oaks as a medical records clerk. She was a member of AARP. Services for Mrs. Goulet will begin at 11:00 a.m., on , 23, at Lima Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Terry Brock officiating. Visitation will be on , from 2-4, and 6-8 p.m. at Siferd-Orians , and one hour prior to services at Lima Missionary Baptist Church.
