Obituary: Thomas Bywater Greer, MD, 87, of Raleigh passed away 1, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born 20, 1927 in Chicago, IL, to the late C. Lester Greer and Atla Bywater Greer. Thom served at multiple hospitals during his four years of service in the Navy. He went on to practice at Ruark, Edgerton, and Greer Obstetrics & Gynecology for over 30 years followed by service as the Chief Medical Officer of the Military Entrance Processing Station. Throughout his medical practice, Thom served as Chief of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Wake Medical , Commander of the Raleigh Power Squadron, was a member of The Robert A Ross Obstetrical & Gynecological Society \ Chapel Hill, NC, and was also a Trustee of the Raleigh Community Hospital. In 2006 he was awarded the Department of the Army-Commanders Award for Civil Service for his outstanding contributions. Thom was a 1946 graduate of Mount Hermon School in Gill, MA. He completed his undergraduate degree at Tusculum and received his doctorate in 1954 at Wake Forest Universitys Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Thom leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 62 years, Lillian (Wall) Greer of Raleigh, his three children: Cindy Greer (David Goodwin) of Morehead City, Suzanne Lovelace of Johns Creek, GA, and Tom Greer Jr. (Joyce) of Rocky Point, four grandchildren: Hannah Howard, Greer Howard, Zac Lovelace, and Taylor Lovelace, extended family: Gray Wall (Louberta), Bud Wall (Frances), Ross Wall (Pat), Sallie Spainhour, Joy Wall, and Richard Stone. He is also survived by special niece Gale Stone Johnson and many other nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend special appreciation to William Dunlap, MD for his compassionate care. |

Obituary: Waynesville, Ruth Greer, age 88, passed away on , 26, 2015 at her home. Ruth was a native of Hackettstown, New Jersey, prior to Waynesville, she resided in Hawaii. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Laura Elyea Shay, and was also preceded in death by her husband, William Greer, who passed away in 1986. Ruth will be remembered as a loving and caring mother with an affinity for reading, crossword puzzles, and playing the piano. Ruth is survived by a daughter, Janet Greer, of Waynesville; and two sons, Thomas Greer, and his wife, Bonnie, of Bath, Pennsylvania and Don Bub Greer, of Waynesville; six grandchildren, Sarah Dowsha, Colleen, Lori, Jeffrey, J.R., and Gary; and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. , 30, 2015 at Wells of Waynesville. |
