Obituary: William Shreve "Bill" Goodwin, 89, of Apex, died , 10, 2016 at WakeMed Cary Hospital. Bill was born 22, 1926 in Apex to the late Dr. Oscar Sexton Goodwin and Elizabeth Shreve Goodwin. He graduated from Apex High School and NC State University. Bill was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as an Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class and worked on planes used to train carrier pilots. He operated dairy and tobacco farms, worked in forestry and land management. He was active in his community serving as chairman of the Apex School Advisory Board during the years of integration; member of the Apex Lions Club serving over 25 years and recognized as Man of the Year; member of the Apex Chamber of Commerce; Chairman of the Board of the North Carolina Baptist Foundation; lifelong member of Apex Baptist Church where he served as deacon, school teacher, Building Committee Chairman, friend and mentor. Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Loftin Goodwin; daughters, Claire Elizabeth Goodwin of Apex, Susan Goodwin Thornbrough and husband, Floyd of Fuquay Varina, son, David Loftin Goodwin and wife, Karin of Raleigh; sister, Jacquelyn Burgess of Apex; brothers, Dr. Joel S. Goodwin and wife Joyce of Salisbury, and Dr. Jim Goodwin and wife Betty of Henderson; grandchildren: Mary Tavares, Michael D. Tavares, Mark Tavares & wife Stuart; Matthew Thornbrough & wife Laura, Heather Rouse and husband Kyle; Connor Goodwin; and four great grandchildren. Obituary: Mr. William Braxton Goodwin, 87, of Charlotte, entered into rest on , 19, 2015 at the Harris Hospice Unit of Novant Presbyterian Hospital. A native of Red Bank, South Carolina, he was the only child of the late George Cromer and Sue Inez Addy Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin was a graduate of Lexington High School in Lexington, South Carolina. A member of the Greatest Generation, he served his country faithfully in the United States Army as a Draftsman. Upon his return, he continued his education at the University of South Carolina from which he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, graduating in 1950. While there, he met the love of his life-his wife, Martha Evelyn McGee Goodwin. were married on 16, 1954 and shared their lives together for 61-1/2 years. were blessed with three children, son Mark Goodwin of Monroe, NC, daughter Carole Goodwin of Charlotte, NC, and son Scott Goodwin and his wife Ruth, of Raleigh, NC. He was also blessed by his grandchildren, Paige Goodwin and his namesake, Alexander Braxton Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He loved airplanes and learning how to fly. In addition to his love of aviation, he was an avid photographer and a wonderful musician and played over 9 different instruments. Mr. Godwin was a chemical engineer and worked for Abbeville Mills in Abbeville, SC and Collins and Aikman in Albemarle, NC. He retired from Honeywell after 22 years of service but continued work after retirement with A.C. Controls in Mint Hill, NC. He also worked for WestVaCo. A funeral service celebrating the life of William Braxton Goodwin will be held in the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen Service on , 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Military rites will follow the service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of customary arrangements, memorials may be made to Glaucoma Research Foundation; 251 Post Street; Suite 600; San Francisco, CA 94108 or to the charitable organization of the donors choice. Obituary: Virginia Carolyn Goodwin, 87, passed away on evening, 16, 2015. Born on May 22, 1927 in Apex; she was the daughter of the late Robert Duke Goodwin and Clara Louise Lawrence Goodwin and wife of the late LeRoy Hartwell Goodwin. She graduated from Apex High School and the North Carolina Baptist Hospital School in Winston-Salem. She worked at Rex Hospital and with Dr. Robert M. Horton for many years. She is lovingly remembered by her four children: Deanna Iskowe, Joe Bickley, Virginia Ruth Bickley and husband Jerry Newman, and Nina Olive and husband Bunn; by her grandchildren: Jeff Bickley and wife Denise, Todd Meador, Greg Bickley and wife Laura and Carla Trepper and husband Justin; nine great-grandchildren; and by her sister-in-law: Lilija Goodwin.
