Obituary: Brooks passed away evening, May 19, 2015, at his home in Charlotte. He was 55 years old. Born 27, 1959 in Ramseur, NC, Brooks was the son of Bobby E. Godwin and the late Doris Griffin Godwin. He received his Bachelors Degree from UNCC and worked in Commercial Appraising with Factory Mutual. Brooks enjoyed his pet dachshunds, was an avid Carolina Tarheel fan and along with his grandson, Abel, was a passionate Carolina Panthers fan from the start. In addition to his father, Bobby of Charlotte, Brooks is survived by his son, Mike Leport of Hamilton, OH; his spouse, Julie Jones Godwin; his grandson, Abel Sawyer Jackson of Monroe; his sisters, Kim Godwin Anderson, Melanie Godwin and Teresa Godwin Bailey (Skip), all of Charlotte; his adoptive brother, Jeff Ballard of Cincinnati, OH; and very close friends, David and Jennifer Barnes. Obituary: Mrs. Doris Griffin Godwin, 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on , 26, 2011 under Hospice care. She was born on 23, 1930 in Monroe, NC, the daughter of the late Stanley W. Griffin and Ollie Mae Baucom Griffin. Mrs. Godwin graduated from Appalachian State University with a BA in education and immediately started her teaching career as an elementary school teacher, grades 4-5. a blind date organized by a friend at the movie theater in Concord, she met the love of her life, a blond-haired, blue-eyed, dimpled face Bobby Godwin. were married on May 20, 1955 and have been happily married for 56 years. they moved to Charlotte in 1961, she taught for several years at Briarwood Elementary School. She stopped teaching after her last daughter was born. Before her illness, Doris raised four children and was a teachers aide at Garinger High School before retiring in 1990 to assist in taking care and raising her pride and joy; her granddaughter, Shelby Leigh Bailey. In addition to raising her four children, She took under her wing an "adopted" son, Jeff Ballard of Newport, Kentucky. Doris was an active member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church where she sang with the senior choir, The Christianaires for many years. She was an avid reader of Christian novels and mysteries, enjoyed bird watching and loved to sing. In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her only sibling, her younger brother, Kenneth Griffin. Doris is survived by her husband, Bobby, her four children, Kim Anderson, Melanie Godwin, Brooks Godwin (Julie Godwin), Teresa Bailey (Skip Bailey), and granddaughters, Shelby Bailey, all of Charlotte, NC and Terra Anderson Daughtry of Columbia, SC. Also surviving are her niece, Kenda Griffin Magnum and nephew, Brian Griffin of Marshville, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078, www.hpccr.org or www.donatehospice.org, or Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 6050 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC 28215, www.hgbc.org.
