Obituary: ELIZABETH L. BETTY GINGAS Holt, MI Age 87, passed away peacefully with her son Bill by her side on 25, 2011. She was born 28, 1923, in Bay City, MI. She was co-editor of the Leslie Local Republican (currently the Leslie Independent) with her husband, John from 1955 - 1970 during which time the paper celebrated its 100 year anniversary. Upon graduating from Midland High School, Betty enlisted in the US navy serving in WWII. She was stationed in downtown Cleveland, OH. She handled classified, restricted, confidential & secret mail. Betty was Honorably Discharged in 1946. Following the war, she went on to attend Michigan State graduating in 1949 with a degree in Journalism. During her time at MSC she met and married her husband, John. graduation, they moved to Leslie and purchased the local paper. leaving the Leslie paper, she and her husband moved to Okemos, then Atlanta, GA and returned to Holt in 1983 to help their son John, and his prior wife Betty, with raising their son, Jonathon, who was born with spinabifida. lived in Holt until her husband John passed away in 1999. Betty moved to Edgewood Retirement Community in 2001 and lived there until 2008. She completed her life living under the loving care of Grand Haven Living . She lived with Parkinsons for the last 25 years. Betty was preceded in death by her husband. Surviving are 2 sons, John P. (Tammie) Gingas and William J. Bill Gingas; 2 grandchildren, Janell (Derek) DeYoung, and Jonathon Gingas; 2 brothers, William Eyre and Carvel (Myrna) Eyre; 3 sisters, Jane Gaffney, Marge Hobart, and Nancy (Peter) Engels; 3 brothers-in-law, Earl (Mary) Gingas, Lawrence (Mari Helen) Gingas, Robert Gingas; and one sister-in-law, Florence Bellhorn. Services will be held 11:00 AM , 29, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church of Holt, 2021 N. Aurelius, Holt, MI with Rev. Bekah Zorgdrager officiating. Interment will take place in Maple Grove at 3 P.M. The family will receive friends 5-8 PM at the Gorsline Runciman s, 621 S. Jefferson, Mason, MI 48854. Those desiring may make contributions to the Michael J.
