Obituary: JOHN ALBERT GOLTZ 18, 1934 – 4, 2014 Husband. Dad. Daddy. Grampa. Great-Grampa. Father-in-law. Friend. Loved. These aren’t just words to describe John Albert Goltz, he answered to all of them. John died , Oct. 4, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. He was 80. Married to Joyce for 53 love-filled years, he was Dad and Daddy to Nancy, Mary, Linda, John and Jeff. John was Grampa to Lance and Stephanie, Shane and Amber, Will, Kate, Bo, Julie, Colin and Ewan. Natalie and Mason would call him Great-Grampa. The proud owner of a perfect 300-game in bowling, he was an avid Alabama football fan, a fisherman and a staunch supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he retired after 24 years as a master sergeant and served as a quality assurance specialist for the Army TMDE Support Activity. A native of Tracy, MN, and a member of First United Methodist Church, he was the oldest of 11 children. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Goltz; daughters, Nancy Goltz Keller (Bobby), Mary Goltz McLaughlin (Bud) and Linda Goltz Patty (Chris); sons, John Goltz and Jeffrey Goltz; grandchildren, Lance McLaughlin (Stephanie), Shane McLaughlin (Amber), Bo McLaughlin, Will Nunn, Kate Nunn, Julie Nunn, Colin Goltz and Ewan Goltz; great-grandchildren, Natalie McLaughlin and Mason McLaughlin; sisters Norma Klein, Lois Sorenson, Marilyn Leysen, Ruth Goltz and Charlotte Hatton; brothers, David Goltz, Donald Goltz and Lyle Goltz. Visitation will be , 11, 2014, at Valhalla from 11 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The memorial service with Rev. Coy Hallmark and Rev. Dr. Glenn Conner officiating will be at Noon, followed by a private family interment in Valhalla Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Disabled American Veterans Chapter 26, 3313 South Memorial Parkway, Huntsville AL 35801. |

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, James Franklin Golson, her parents Jessie Beatrice Macon Mills and Philip Grady Mills, and her only sister, Philipa Mills Rawlinson. She is survived by her five children: James Philip (Nancy) Golson, Auburn, AL; Penelope Golson (Stanley) Seago, Prattville, AL; Franklin Eugene (Kay) Golson, Birmingham, AL; David Andrew (Kathy) Golson, Prattville, AL; and Charles Timothy Golson, Sedona, AZ. Grandchildren: Brian (Alisa) Golson, San Francisco, CA; Neil (LesLeigh) Golson, San Francisco, CA; Amber Ivey (Greg) Bostwick, Mobile, AL; Tray (Kirstie) Ivey. Birmingham, AL; Drew Golson (Meghan Hawkins), Birmingham, AL; Matt Golson, Atlanta, GA; Mollie Golson (Justin Thrash), Calera, AL; Abbey Golson, Auburn, AL; and Hayley Golson, Montgomery, AL. Three Step-grand Children: Angie Seago, Kayla (William) Kyle, and Jenna Groome, Ten Great Grandchildren, t wo Step-great Grandchildren, a n d many nieces, nephews and cousins. Frances was a devoted daughter, wife and mother. She grew up in Prattville, and graduated from Autauga High School and Massey-Draughon Business School. She lived with her parents in Prattville until her husband James returned from military service . his World War II service Frances and James moved to his family farm in the Evergreen Community in rural Autauga . There she was active in the Demonstration Club, Evergreen Baptist Church and Hicks Memorial School in Autaugaville. later moved to Prattville where she was active in First Baptist Church and Autauga Academy. She was very proud that all five of her children received degrees from Auburn University. Frances was an avid reader and she loved to travel with her husband and son Charles throughout the United States. She had a phenomenal memory and loved matching wits with contestants on the TV show Jeopardy. services were held 2:00 PM, , 16,2016 at Prattville First Baptist Church. Burial followed at Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were her grandsons. |
