Obituary: Lewis Gifford, age 77, of Ebeemee Township, Brownville, Maine passed away unexpectedly from pneumonia at Cape Cod Hospital on 26, 2014 during a trip to the Cape to visit family and friends for Christmas. Lew was born in Sangerville, Maine in 1937 to Francis and Elsie (Corriveau) Gifford. At 18 years old, Lew joined the Army and met and married (the late) Carolyn Covell, to whom he was married for for 37 years. Lew served in the Army for 22 years and rose to the rank of Sergeant 1st class. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, and was awarded a Bronze Star for bravery upon his return from Vietnam. In 2011, Lew married Maddy (Devine) Fulcher and she became the love of his life. Although a habitual practical joker, Lew will always be remembered for doing the "right thing" and for being a wonderful father and loving grandfather. Family and friends will cherish the impact that Lew's generous, loving, and playful spirit had on their lives. Quick to make time for visiting, Lew always made guests feel welcome. living in Eastham for 35 years, Lew recently returned to his beloved Maine to enjoy "the way life should be." Lew loved being in Maine - close to his sisters and his roots. He had adventures snowmobiling and 4-wheeling, and particularly enjoyed soaking passengers on his pontoon boat. Even though Lew was retired and had the luxury to relax, he remained an avid outdoorsman and nature lover. Lew could often be found busy on his tractor doing yard work, but he also welcomed quiet time (once in a while) to read a good book or play a game of cribbage. Though predeceased by his son, Stephen, Lew is survived by his wife, Maddy (Devine) Gifford of Ebeemee Township, Brownville, Maine; son, Randall L. Gifford and his wife, Sara Gifford, of Eastham, MA; daughters, Pamela Kromberg of Yarmouth, MA, Victoria Gifford of Worcester, MA, and Rebecca Gifford, of Orleans, MA; step-daughter, Echo Karras and her husband, Mark, of Chatham, MA; stepson, John Kelley, of Orleans, MA; and grandchildren Randall L. Gifford II, Tessa C. Gifford, Stephen and Lucas Gifford-Reis, Caleb Kelley, and Nicholas Bober; sisters Nora Roberts of Brownville Junction, ME and Arlene Peasley of Parkman, ME; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins. Obituary: ORONO - Ellen Joan (Pelletier) Gifford, 88, died 26, 2015 at Orono Commons. She was born 26, 1927 in Old Town the eldest daughter of Emile and Frances (Spruce) Pelletier. Ellen resided in Orono the majority of her adult life. Ellen provided day care in her home for many years. She was admired by many for her excellent and professional sewing and alteration skills. She was employed at the University of Maine and worked as a library clerk at the Fogler Library until her retirement. She was fun loving and enjoyed the company of her dear "knit-wits" friends with whom she would socialize, do crafts, and play games. Sewing, gardening, camping and many family events were among her favorite pastimes. Ellen will be remembered for her love of her children and family. She is survived by her children John "Jack" Gifford and his wife Lu of Bangor daughter Mary Ellen Brooks and her husband Brian of Orono, and youngest daughter Sally Gifford Flanagan of Portland; Ellen was blessed with five wonderful grandchildren Melanie Brooks and her husband Shane Perry, Jennifer Brooks Sonnenberg and her husband John, Michelle Gifford Frederick, Stephanie Gifford Spencer, and Michael Gifford; seven great grandchildren Ian, Ayda, Violet, DJ, Joe, Gage, and Lexi; brothers Francis, Paul, and Richard Pelletier and a sister Nancy Pelletier Dunn. She was predeceased by her husband Maynard in 2006, sister Anna Pelletier Sucy and Robert Pelletier. A very special and heartfelt thank you to Phillips Strickland House, Bangor, where Ellen resided for two years, Orono Commons nursing home, Orono, and Beacon Hospice, Bangor, for their excellent care and protection. Friends may call 6-8 at the Birmingham 438 Main St Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM at Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, Old Town. Following the service, all are invited to the Parish Hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship. Private burial will be at Riverside , Orono.
