Obituary: Willliam J. Gehlen, Jr. born on 16, 1919, died on May 16, 2017, at the Bay Ridge facility of Westminster Village in Spanish Fort, Alabama. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he graduated from Colgate University in 1940 and received a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Harvard University in 1942. He entered the Navy and served a tour of duty in the Pacific Theater and the Bureau of Ordinance until his discharge in 1946. the war, he spent one year teaching economics at Colgate before joining Scott Paper in 1947 where he worked for twenty-seven years rising to the position of Division Vice President of Scott Paper ’s Southern Operations. In 1974, he joined the First National Bank of Mobile as President. Mr. Gehlen’s love of education and service to his community were evidenced in his many civic activities. He was Chairman of the Board of the United Fund of Mobile, Director and past President of America’s Junior Miss program, member of the Board of Trustees of the Mobile Infirmary, member of the Board of Directors of the YMCA, Director of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce where he served as Chairman of the Aviation Committee and the Mobile Area Council Boy Scouts where he served as president from 1972-1973. He was a member of the Advisory Committee of the Industrial Management Club, the U.S. Savings Bond Committee, Auburn University School of Business Advisory Council, the Executive Committee of the South Alabama Regional Goals Forum and Rotary. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing golf at the Country Club of Mobile and Lakewood Golf Club. He was adept at electronics and woodworking earning the family name of “Mr. Fix It.” A man of honor and integrity, his education and interests made him a stalwart supporter of young people, and indeed, all his family. Mr. Gehlen was predeceased by his first wife, Bea, and is survived by his second wife, Norma Jean Damrich; his daughter, Deborah Gehlen Denniston; grandchildren Dwain C. Denniston, Jr.(Sara) and William Gehlen Denniston; great-grandchildren Gordon Denniston and Charlotte Denniston; step-children Michael Damrich (Suzanne), Steven Damrich (Shannon), Patty Uremovich (Mike); Debbie Sullivan (Steve) and David Damrich as well as their children. Church services will be held at St. James Chapel, Fairhope, Alabama on , May 20th at 11:00. A private burial will be held on , May 22nd at Pine Crest , Mobile, Alabama. Obituary: James Edgar Geer, age 81, of Tuscaloosa, died 30, 2017, at DCH Regional Medical . Services will be 11 a.m. , 4, 2017, at Circlewood Baptist Church with Rev. Andrew Haire and Jerry Doss officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel , a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.O. Sr. and Ella Geer; wife, Betty Geer; son, Mike Geer; brothers, L.C. Geer, W.O. Geer, Jr., David Geer, and Johnny Geer; sisters, Carolyn Weaver and Sue Stephenson; faithful canine companions, Missy and Patches. He is survived by daughters, Diane Humphries and Robin Flemming (Kerry); son, Chris Geer (Vicki); and brothers, Aaron Geer (Carol), and Joe Geer, Sr.; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Born in Coker, he was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Local 372 Plumber and Pipe-Fitting Union. He was a loyal and devoted Christian man who had been a member of both Cottondale Baptist and Circlewood Baptist Churches. Pallbearers will be, Brennan Bush, Parker Bush, Kelly Bush, Taylor Geer, Cody Geer, A.J. Haire, Jeromy Hollis, Matt Isbell, and Jake Sexton. Obituary: GEER, JACK CHARLES, M.D. Born in Galesburg, Illinois on 19, 1927 and passed away on 6, 2010. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathleen Williamson Geer and his brother, Gerald Geer. Following High School he served in the U.S. Navy then graduated from Louisiana State University and Louisiana State University School of Medicine where he was later awarded Distinguished Alumnus. He served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pathology at The Ohio State University School of Medicine. In 1975, he moved to Birmingham to become Professor and Chairman of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he retired after fourteen years as Professor Emeritus. He was an active member of the UAB New Horizons Lecture Series as well as an ardent supporter of the Birmingham Museum of Art, where he volunteered as a docent. He is survived by his children, Charles Geer of Birmingham, Dr. Richard (Tina) Geer of Nashville, TN, John (Adelaide) Geer of Nashville, TN, Cindy Roesel of Houston, TX, and Dr. Michael (Melanie) Geer of Birmingham along with his ten grandchildren; Katherine, Christopher, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Alene, and Oliver Geer of Nashville, Emily and Cloe Roesel of Houston, and Jack and Mallie Geer of Birmingham. Obituary: Charles Robert Geer, May 9, 1956 - Sept. 5, 2015 Charles Robert Geer was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 9, 1956 and passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 5th, 2015. Charles graduated from Upper Arlington High School, Columbus, Ohio in 1975 and attended Birmingham-Southern and The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and in Birmingham where he completed his studies. college he lived in Montgomery, AL and worked for the Red Cross Blood Bank services. Years later, he moved back to Birmingham to work at UAB Hospital in billing services. His true passion was in the culinary arts and he changed direction to work at several restaurants in Birmingham including Oceans, Doodles, and Anthony's. Charles loved music and possessed a large record collection which he enjoyed all of his life. He enjoyed conversation and always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. He was a survivor of colorectal cancer in the later part of his life and waged a lifelong struggle against addiction. Charles attended The Church of the Reconciler and was an advocate in their mission in helping the homeless. He also attended Highlands Methodist Church Community Ministry Services. He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Jack C. and Kathleen (Katty) Geer of Birmingham; sister in law Tina Schifano Geer of Nashville and brother-in-law Dr. James F. Roesel of Houston. Charles is survived by his brothers Dr. Richard Geer and John Geer (Adelaide) of Nashville, TN; Dr. Michael Geer (Melanie) of Birmingham; and sister Cindy Rossel of Houston, TX. along with nieces and nephews: Katie, Chris, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Alene, and Oliver of Nashville; Emily and Cloe of Houston and Jack and Mallie of Birmingham. The family plans to hold a private memorial service at a later date. The family wants to thank Dr. Jimmy Harvey and Dr. Stephen Bell for the care they provided to our brother Charles as well as the excellent care provided over the years by Cooper Green Mercy Hospital staff and physicians. Honorariums in his name can be made to The Church of the Reconciler, Highlands Methodist Church Community Ministries or to a charity of one's choice .
