Obituary: Bernice (Bena Marrone) Gillespie, 89, passed away on , 7, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., , 17 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8510 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO with entombment following in Resurrection . Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. prior to Mass, where the Rosary will be prayed at 9 a.m. Bena was born 6, 1924 to Saccorso and Josephine Marrone. She worked at Percy Kent Bag Co. for 20 years. In 1952 she married Kenneth Gillespie, they had no children of their own, however they loved their niece, Mary Jo Marrone, and treated her as their biological daughter. Bena also worked in the garment industry at Mendels and Gay Gibsons as an inspector. She also worked at a research laboratory, Haver-Lockhart. Bena loved to cook and bake and had cooked at one time for as many as 300 people. Bena is preceded in death by her husband, Ken of 62 years. Survivors include her nieces, Mary Jo (Angelo) Casa, two surrogate grandsons, Dominic (Susanne) Casa, and Anthony (Lauren) Casa; and great-grandsons, Joseph Casa and Austin Blair; and many nieces and nephews. Obituary: Gillenwater, Jimmie Darrell "Jim" Jimmie Darrell Gillenwater was born in Rose Hill, Kansas, 5, 1933, to Ralph and Cecil Gillenwater and passed away 27, 2015 at his home in Wichita with his wife and children by his side. He graduated from Rose Hill High School in 1951, attended Wichita University in 1952, but left college to begin his career at Boeing for the next 38 years. During that time Jim enlisted in the Army, served his country for two years active duty and then 4 years in the Army Reserve, being honorably discharged from duty in 1961. He retired from Boeing in 1991. Jim was an avid sports fan and sportsman. He lettered four years in baseball, two years in basketball and was a proud Rosehill Rocket. He also loved the Shockers and Jim and Bettie could be seen, regardless of the weather, cheering at basketball and baseball games at WSU. A Snickers candy bar always ensured them a spot in the parking lot close to the door for baseball games. Jim loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing with family, especially his grandson Travis. Opening days of pheasant and deer season, were never missed. He was up before sunrise, no time for piddling, because he was never late to meet the boys for breakfast at Holyrood. Every corner, every field was an opportunity for Jim to say, Remember when we.... And there was only one way to walk a field, FULL SPEED AHEAD! But his one true passion in life, was his wife Bettie and their families. Seldom apart, even working together at Boeing, they would spend several days each week at their cabin near Betties hometown of Roxbury. Just being together out on the family land, entertaining relatives, was as good as it got for Jim. traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states, 10 Canadian Provinces, 6 continents, and 61 different counties. Bettie spent most of that time trying to catch up with Jim as he walked with the pace of a high school boy running the bases all around the world. celebrated 55 years together this year. Jim loved his family and family events and was often referred to as Jungle Jim by children who loved playing and climbing around him. He was a compassionate and generous man, as well as a clever prankster that left many funny and fond memories. Thanks for the memories Jim. Jim was proceeded in death by his parents Ralph and Cecil Gillenwater, grandparents Frank and Mary Gillenwater, and Charles and Emma Dennett of Rose Hill, Kansas. Other relatives, Gerald and Winfred Cox, Rod and Ethel Canary, and Caryl Woodall. Jim is survived by his wife Bettie, children Lois and (Bob) Neace, Leon and (Ronda) Gillenwater, grandchildren and Travis, great-granddaughters Katelyn and Cora; and many other nieces and nephews. Viewing will be 4 to 8 p.m. and Service 10:30 a.m. , both at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary. Burial to follow at Seltzer Springs , 14704 E. Harry.
