Obituary: Velma Nanny Givens, 94, of Evansville, passed away , May 1, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born 15, 1920, in Evansville, to the late Henry and Alice Dahmer. She loved rummage sales, cooking (always from scratch!), and redecorating her home. She was very caring and compassionate and loved being with her family. She worked at Bernardin during WWII after it had been retooled to aid in the war effort. Nanny loved to feed the hobos that jumped off the trains back in the 40s and would invite them in to her home for a big meal. She was a devout Christian that never said an unkind word about anyone. Nanny was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Harold B. Givens; and son, William Givens; she was the last of her family. She is survived by her daughters, Renee Givens and Shirley (Terry) Poag; son, Jack Givens; grandchildren, Jamie (Nick) Sallee, Kristina (Kent) Simms, Brent (Laura) Poag, Leslie (Jason) Spindler, William Givens, Jack Givens, Jr., and Gregory Givens; and 13 great-grandchildren. services will be 10:00 AM , May 5, 2015, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Pastor David Whitmore, with entombment in Park Lawn . Friends may visit from 2:00 to 7:00 PM and from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Dr. Inzerello and the nurses at Deaconess Hospice for their compassion and loving care. Memorial contributions may be made to Deaconess Hospice. Obituary: For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21 Royd E. Givens went home to be with his Lord on , 16, 2015, at the age of 90. He was born 8, 1925, to the late Clifton and Laura (Hatcher) Givens. He attended high school in Morgantown, KY. He served in the United States Army, Field Artillery, during WWII in the European Theatre. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal and was discharged from the Army in 1946. He retired from Bristol Myers Squibb in 1987 after more than 33 years. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Evansville from 1946-2002, where he began the first couples school class. He called them his Married Young Adults (MYAs). He worked with this class for many years and loved the members very much. He watched some of them go on to become pastors, church workers, etc. Royd and his wife, Rosemary, helped start Northwoods Church in Evansville in 2002. Royd was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Alice. He is survived by his second wife of 53 years, Rosemary; children, Sharon Conover, Sheri Walker, and Jeffrey Moore; grandchildren, Shayne Small, Jonathon Small, Ashley Burman, Jacob Walker, Candice Tatum, and Adam Moore; and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be 11:00 AM , 19, 2015, at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Rev. Bobby Pell, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. He is survived by his parents, Stanley and Martha; his brother, Scott; grandmothers Eunice Givens of Charlotte, NC and Margaret Gentry of Indianapolis; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, and friends. His paternal grandfather, Odell Givens, preceded him in death. Ross attended The Orchard School from preschool through 8th grade, graduating in 2010. He subsequently attended North Central High School and the Excel . Ross graduated from high school, with college credits, in 2015. He planned to begin college later this year. Ross was a friend to all who knew him. He had a quiet, but fun-loving spirit and enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends, watching movies, playing video games, playing basketball, and wearing the latest fashions. He loved his large family, especially his grandmothers, deeply. He dreamed of being a businessman--an entrepreneur--and enjoyed helping others.
