Obituary: Glenn Joseph Gibson, 83, of Granite City, IL, born 28, 1931 in Hannibal, Missouri, passed away 17, 2015 at Rosewood Rehab , in Edwardsville, IL. Glenn was a retired twenty year veteran, joining the Air Force in 1947, where he worked on the first American made fighter jet, the F-4 at Air Force Base in California. Glenn wanted to travel the world, so in 1951 he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served 4 tours of duty in combat in Korea and 8 tours in Vietnam. Glenn was the first American up the Hue River in Vietnam while in command of a Landing Craft Utility vessel. Glenn was stationed at Navy Base San Diego and traveled the Pacific from Alaska to the Orient. While in Japan, in 1952, Glenn visited Nagasaki and bared witness to the awful destruction caused by the atomic bomb dropped on it in 1945. During his 20 year military career, Glenn was awarded the National Defense Service Medal (One Star), Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, China Service Medal (Extended), and the Korean Presidential Citation Good Conduct Medal. In 1959 Glenn began writing letters to Barbara Ann Wilper, of Quincy, IL. and they dated over the course of the next three years when Glenn was on leave. On 14, 1962, Glenn and Barbara were married, in Quincy, IL. Once married, they moved to Coronado and Imperial Beach, California until 1968, when Glenn was honorably discharged from the Navy. Glenn & Barbara moved to Granite City, where Glenn worked at Granite City Steel. He retired in 1998 after 28 years of service. Once retired, Glenn volunteered every week at Gateway Regional Medical , serving one year as the Auxiliary President. Glenn and Barbara have been parishioners of St. Elizabeths Church in Granite City, IL, since 1971. Glenn was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, also in Granite City, IL and active with the Boy Scouts of America. Glenns favorite hobby was wood working where he made anything from custom furniture to hand carved ducks. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Francis (Jackson) McClintic and Alonzo Glenn Gibson, his step father Hubert Payton McClintic, his infant son, David Glenn Gibson, his brother Jack McClintic, his sister Ruth Mignon Holman. Glenn is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Ann (Wilper) Gibson, his daughter Gretchen Ann (Ernie) Morris and his two sons, Peter Joseph Gibson and Patrick Glenn (Skye) Gibson. Glenn has 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Visitation: In celebration of Glenns life, visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM, on 20, 2015 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. In lieu of flowers, Glenn would prefer donations either to the Knights of Columbus or the Southwest Indian Reservation and or Masses. : A funeral Mass will be said for Glenn at 10 AM, 21, 2015 at St. Elizabeths Catholic Church in Granite City, IL with Father Chris Cornerford as celebrant. Obituary: GERALD JERRY M. GIBSON Gerald Jerry M. Gibson Gibby 72 of New Lenox left us suddenly on 13, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orland and Arlene (Mooneyham) Gibson, a brother, Garald Gibson, and a son, Gerald Gibson. Jerry leaves behind a loving wife of 48 years, Linda (Johnson) Gibson and his beloved children, Deborah (Gibson) Corbin (Jeff) of Manhattan and Matthew Gibson (Renetta) of Longwood, FL. The void Jerry leaves behind will forever be felt by his loving granddaughters, Rebecca Corbin, Kyra Gibson, Kylie Gibson, and Kaya Gibson, who were responsible for the bright sparkle in his eyes. He is survived by three siblings, Ronald Gibson (Marilyn), Raymond Gibson (Dianne), and Patricia (Gibson) Ward (David), aunts, uncles, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jerry was born in Chicago, IL and attended Argo High School. He served his Country from of 1965 through May of 1967 in the U.S Army. his dedicated service, Jerry returned home to work for his father in their family owned business, Gibbys Plumbing, which Jerry eventually co-owned with his brothers. He moved to New Lenox in 1972 with his family and served the community as a Township Board Member for 15 years, Park District Board Member for 6 years/President for 4 years, Lions Club Member and past President, and youth softball/baseball coach. He was the Plumbing Inspector for the villages of Manhattan and New Lenox, serving New Lenox for 25 years. Jerry was a generous soul that never missed an opportunity to lend a hand and loved his neighbors like family. Everything he did was done with great passion, which included living a life of constant activity. Jerry was an avid golfer and bowler and loved sports of all types. He was a true Chicago Fan, always showing his support for the Blackhawks, Bears, and the White Sox. A visitation will be held for Jerry at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on 17th from 2pm – 9pm. A funeral service will be held at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel on 18th at 9:30am with an honorable journey to Abraham Lincoln National , Elwood IL for a burial service at 11:30am.
