Obituary: Mr. Gordon P. Goecke, of Sandy Springs, passed away 23, 2010 at the age of 87. He was the son of the late Ernest & Irene Goecke. During WWII, Gordon served in the Army Air Corp as a B24 Bomber pilot in the South Pacific. He retired from the military with the distinguished rank of Major. retirement from the military, Gordon worked in management for Motors Insurance . Gordons life was a legacy of giving apparent by his volunteer work. He put in countless hours at St. Josephs Hospital, at Saint Martins in the Field Episcopal Church, with the Lions Club, with Hospice and with First United Methodist Church in Fargo. Gordon was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Zellers Goecke; sister, Phyllis Hanson; and brother, Allen Goecke. He is survived by his beloved wife, Norma L. Goecke; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul & Stephenie Goecke and Bruce & Bonita Goecke; step-children, Jennifer & Dr. Phillip Johnson, Dean & Ninfa Jennings and Judy Jennings. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Geoffrey, Breanne, Matthew Goecke and Shannon Goecke-Watson. A memorial service for Gordon will be held , 29, 2010 at 1:00PM at Saint Martins in the Field Episcopal Church with a reception for friends and family to follow. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to The American Cancer Society or Saint Martins in the Field Episcopal Church Endowment Fund in Gordons name. |

Obituary: Mr. William A. Bill Godwin, 88, of Woodstock, GA passed away 1, 2014. He was born on 7, 1925 in Valdosta, GA to the late Elizabeth Lake and William Avery Godwin, Sr. In 1943, Bill joined the United States Navy, and he served honorably in the Pacific Theater during WWII. his service, Bill received his diploma from the Boys High School in Atlanta. He enjoyed a career in sales in the Newspaper and Display Industry. He advertised for Ward-Griffith , the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Gainesville Daily Sun, Marietta Daily Journal and the Neighbor Newspapers Group. He also owned and operated the Manchester Star Mercury. In 1973, he co-founded, with Jim McElreath, The News Shopper which served Cherokee, Cobb, North Fulton and Pickens Counties. He ran The News Shopper until 2005. Bill was a past President of the Woodstock Rotary Club and past President of the Cherokee Board of Ethics. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Godwin and sisters, Camille, Charlene and Betty. He leaves behind sons, Bill Godwin (Dona), Nathan Godwin (Debra) and John Godwin (Nancy), 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and twin sister, Jean Lorentzen. Obituary: Mrs. Sue Ward Godwin, 78, of Columbus, GA passed away , 11, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. A Graveside service will be held , 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM in Parkhill with Reverend Jim and Karen Herring officiating. The family will receive friends afternoon from 2:00-4:00 PM in the Wynnton Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road. Mrs. Godwin was born in Columbus, GA and was the daughter to the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ward. She was a 1954 graduate of Jordan High School and attended Columbus . Mrs. Godwin was an extra class Amateur Radio Operator and a member of the Columbus Amateur Radio Club. She held the call sign W4SUE. Mrs. Godwin was a Medical Transcriptionist at Fort Bennings Martin Army Hospital until her retirement in 1993 and ran her own transcription business in Columbus for a number of years afterwards. She was a member of Gray Station Christian in Gray Station, TN. Mrs. Godwin is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Griffin Griff Godwin, Jr. of Columbus, GA; two sons Jeffrey G. Godwin (Amy) of Grayson, GA and Russell S. Godwin of Atlanta, GA; a sister Linda McLaughlin (Bill) of Marlinton, WV; and a nephew Warren McLaughlin of Marlinton, WV. Obituary: Sara Moak Godwin, a medical research laboratory administrator, died 2, 2014, at age 90. She was born in Philadelphia, MS on 26, 1924, to Conway Columbus and Katie Elizabeth Bridges Moak. She graduated from Mississippi State for Women in 1945 and became certified as a medical technologist. She then practiced 1945\48 at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, where she met her husband, John T. (Jack), of 58 years. Mrs. Godwin was a chemist at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer in New York City 1948\49, and 1965\90 served as the administrator for Medical Diagnostic and Research Laboratories, which she co-founded and built with her husband into a state-of-the-art, multi-location network in the metro-Atlanta and NE Georgia area. She was a member of several medical associations and served on the boards and as an officer of several medical auxiliaries. For nearly 50 years, Mrs. Godwin, with her husband, supported charitable organizations and established various endowments at many educational levels, such as a medical scholarship at Emory University and an award for excellence in penmanship at Athens Academy. She was a longtime member and supporter of the Atlanta History , Atlanta Botanical Garden, Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, Rose Garden Club, The Emory University Womens Club, and Georgia Tech Faculty Womens Club, and a lifetime member of The Shepherd auxiliary. She also supported The Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta and numerous other botanical, environmental, conservation, historical, medical, and art organizations. Mrs. Godwin was a beautiful, intelligent, sweet, and generous woman who adored the music of Dave Brubeck as well as other jazz and big bands. She delighted in growing plants, tending her yard, attending flower shows, and travelling extensively throughout the world. A loving mother who untiringly facilitated her childrens education and extracurricular activities, she also was a devoted wife who actively supported and worked for the advancement of her husbands aspirations and prominent and pioneering medical career that spanned 60 years and four continents. were graceful partners on the dance floor as well. Mrs. Godwin was predeceased by her husband in 2006 and by her brother, Dr. William Edwin Moak of Richton, MS, one month prior. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth G. Seabrook of Argyle, TX; son, Thomas A. Godwin and his wife Janice of McLean, VA; daughter, Patricia G. Dunleavy and her husband John of Athens, GA; grandchildren: Bradley Seabrook, Jennifer Newland, John Godwin, Marguerite Godwin, James Dunleavy, and Catherine Dunleavy; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held , 7 at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Athens First United Methodist Church, with visitation in the Parlor across the hall at 9:00.
