Obituary: Alfred A. Fritz Fischer, age 90, passed away peacefully on 12, 2016 at the Discovery Village at Melbourne assisted living home in Melbourne, FL. Alfred was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Evelyn L. Fischer. He is survived by his four daughters, Chris (John) DeStefon, Linda Fischer, Catherine (Don) Hemmenway, Laura (Neil) Bianco, ten grandchildren, Sam DeStefon, Lisa (Matt) Bolyard, Shannon (Brent) Oliver, John DeStefon, Meghan (Ben) Herman, Stuart Hemmenway, Colin Hemmenway, Chris MacAllister, Colleen MacAllister, Chloe Bianco, and four great-grandchildren. Alfred is also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, and survived by three sisters, Alice Mazur, Nancy Wilson, Irma Hochreiter and one brother, Bill (Mary Ann) Fischer. Born 25, 1926 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, the son of Christopher and Blanche Fischer, Fritz left school early to join the Army Air Forces during WWII. He soon became a bombardier in B-24s in the south Pacific. the war, Fritz came home and married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn. He joined the Air Force Reserves and was eventually recalled for the Korean War. wards he worked in Civil Service in Ohio, moving to Florida in 1966 to work at Patrick AFB, and spending his last three years of civil service duty at Yokota Air Base, Japan. Those years in Japan were the highlight of his career and frequently reminisced about. Finally retiring in 1983, Fritz and Evelyn jointly took up the hobby of woodworking. Together, always together, they produced many beautiful works of art. Alfred and Evelyn were well known in their community of Indian Harbour Beach for riding their bicycles everywhere. When not woodworking or riding their bikes, Fritz and Evelyn enjoyed cooking meals for the extended family. Their grandchildren have many happy memories of having dinner with their grandparents. A private service for the family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. |
