Obituary: Obitiuary Alicia J. Fernandez Alicia J. Fernandez, 93, peacefully died on , 4, 2015 in her home surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Born May, 18, 1921 in Havana, Cuba, as one of five children of the late Fransisco Barillas and Cristina Machado-Barillas. Alicia married Hector R. Fernandez on 29, 1945 in San Juan Letran, La Havana, Cuba. were married 68 years and had three children, five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. In 1961 Hector and Alicia fled the communist regime of Cuba and came to Miami in the hope of a better life for themselves and their three children. She was a woman of great faith and from that she drew her strength. At 41 she was to start her life over in a new country with two teenage boys and a baby. Life as she knew it in Cuba would never be the same, this was a new language, a new culture a new everything. two years in Miami, the family moved again to Indianapolis, Indiana, the midwest. Here they would become "Americanized" becoming active members of the Cuban/American club and making many good friends. Alicia was resourceful, being very good cook and seamstress, she used her talents to the fullest. She did alterations out of her home and organized weekly meetings with the parish women teaching them Spanish and Cuban recipes in exchange for English lessons. On 26, 1970, Hector, Alicia and their three children became US Citizens. She was very proud of this accomplishment and was very thankful to her tutor, her oldest son Hector Jose. nine years in the Indianapolis, she had enough of the cold and convinced her husband to move to FL where the climate was more like her native Cuba. settled in Pompano Beach and she lived there till she died. Alicia lived her life as a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She had a big heart and was always caring for others including a family member, distant relative or friend, it did not matter. She loved being a grandmother and thoroughly enjoyed caring for Kelly, the first grandchild, the first two years of her life. It was Kelly who gave her the name "Aba" which everyone came to know her by. Aba always had something nice to say and never went to visit a friend or family without bringing them a little treat, either something she made or a box of chocolates. To no surprise she was greatly loved by her immediate family and extended family. Till the day she died she regularly communicated with her cousins, nieces, nephews and the children of her friends. She will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hector Fernandez, 4-8-2014, her son, Luis Fernandez, 11-27-2008, her two brothers, two sisters and her parents. Alicia is survived by her Daughter, Alicia Ring, son-in-law, Michael Ring, their three children Kelly Magnani (Peter), Jacqueline Ring, and Daniel Ring. She is also survived by her son Hector J. Fernandez-Barillas, his two children Gabriella Longoria-Barillas, Diego Longoria-Barillas (Chloe) and great granddaughter Vera Barillas. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Lighthouse Point, FL on , 24 at 1:00 pm. |

Obituary: Alice Sylvia Fernandez, 84 of New Port Richey, FL passed away 24, 2017. She is survived by her loving Husband of 35 years, Benigno (Benny) Fernandez, her only son Steven Andrew Marcus, her step-children Eileen (Cuqui) Martinez and her husband Miguel, Benigno (Benny Boy) Fernandez Jr. and his wife Tamara, Michael Fernandez and LeeAnne Fernandez. Her deceased mother, Margaret Garcia was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. Alice was born 12, 1932 in Tampa, Florida. She attended Jefferson High School in Tampa. She worked for Northwest Airlines at Tampa International Airport for 36 years where jets were not used yet and planes flew with propellers. She traveled the world with Benny and they shared a beautiful marriage of 35 years together. She loved bowling, golfing, dancing and happy hours with friends. She loved to entertain with her great culinary skills. Alice was so beautiful and put together that when she and her son Steve would go out alone they would be mistaken for a married couple. She loved and lived life to the fullest and she loved to "Shop Till You Drop"! Alice was a wonderful lady inside out! Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm on , 31, 2017 at Sylvan Abbey United Methodist Church, 2817 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater. Alice will be laid to rest in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. |

Obituary: Alegria Molina Fernandez was a loving mother, faithful wife, and devoted friend. Alegria, most commonly known as Ali among her friends, passed away on her 42nd Wedding Anniversary. Ali had an infectious smile and welcoming spirit. Everyone knew her. If you went into any of her favorite stores or restaurants, the people would always smile and say, "Hello Mrs. Fernandez! We are so happy to see you again!" Ali grew up in the Philippines where she graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with two degrees- one in Pharmacy and the other in Medical Technology. From there she moved to the United States, by way of New Jersey. It was here where she met her husband, Peter Fernandez, Sr. were wed 2nd, 1973 and have three children: John Christopher, Peter Joseph, and Regina Anastasia. Ali was a devout Catholic. She made several pilgrimages over the years- One to Jerusalem and the other to see Our Lady of Guadalupe. Ali gave to the poor through donations, sponsorship, and yearly elf presents through church. Ali was also one of the most loving and accepting people that you could ever know. She helped several of her closest friends and classmates get their citizenship. She would fill out the paperwork and have them sign it. Her high school best friend recounts how Ali was there for her when she had the chicken pox right before prom. Ali took care of her and did all of the clinical duties. She was always there for you when you needed help. Ali's struggle with her heart has come to an end and she is at peace with God. Our family knows that she will always be watching over us. We know that she would want all of her family and friends to not be sad for her but to remember her fondly. Feel free to sign her guestbook.
