Obituary: UNCASVILLE - Robert Charles Fletcher Sr., 95, died peacefully Tues. Sept. 22, 2015. He was the first born son of Charles and Valida (DesRosiers) Fletcher. Born in Canterbury, the family also lived in Plainfield and Norwich. On Oct. 14, 1944 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Norwich, he married Claire Evelyn Haynes who he shared his life with for over 70 years. He also leaves two sons; William of Woodenville, WA and Robert Jr of Groton and a daughter; Carol Carlson of Gales Ferry. Also missing him are his 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Bob was also predeceased by his brothers and sister, Warren of Los Angeles, CA, Chester of Pawhuska, OK, Clifford (Skip) of Uncasville, CT and Joyce Hebert of Norwich. Bob was a WWII Army veteran in the 45th Thunderbird Division in North Africa and Sicily. During the Italian campaign, he was wounded at the battle in Anzio. He never forgot the friends left behind. He retired from Pfizers at the Groton plant after 33 years. His passion for cars lasted his entire life. Bob was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW and the American Legion Post #4, Norwich. The family would like to send their grateful appreciation to Orchard Grove, Backus Hospital and Lighthouse care. Obituary: John B. Fletcher, 69, of Marlborough, beloved husband of Carol Fletcher, passed away unexpectedly on , 1, 2014. He was born May 5, 1945 in Groton, CT to the late Harold and Evelyn (Gaudet) Fletcher. He enlisted in the United States Army honorably serving his country as a Green Beret during the Vietnam War. His bravery during the war awarded him with the Parachutist badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman badge and the Purple Heart. He was a loyal employee of John M. Glover Agency in Berlin, CT. In his free time, John enjoyed hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and all outdoor activities. He had a passion for all music especially Jimmy Buffett who inspired him to let loose and celebrate life. John was a genuine, caring, selfless man that dedicated his life to his family, friends and anyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He instilled his strong discipline and good morals on his children while coaching them on and off the field. John was always there in good and bad times to support, motivate, and encourage his family. John would tackle any obstacle head on. He would display his rugged character by building forts, playing paintball and climbing the White Mountains but was never afraid to show off his softer side. Through building sand castles, getting his nails painted, making happy time drinks for his grandchildren and steaks for the dogs. He was the family superhero! The smile on his face could light up a room and will forever shine in our hearts. In addition to his wife Carol Fletcher of 42 years, he will be dearly missed by his children, Tami Grasso and her husband Peter, Tara Fletcher and her boyfriend John James, Derek Fletcher and his wife Jessica and Drew Fletcher and his girlfriend Christie Rebelo, his five grandchildren, and his extended family and friends. All are invited to attend calling hours on , 11th, 2014 from 5-8 PM at Glastonbury , 450 New London Tpk, Glastonbury, CT 06033. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
