Obituary: Gilbert Seymour Fillion was a natural leader whose winning presence allowed him to take control of various situations with ease. Equipped with a clear and calculating focus, he possessed a tough-minded, ake charge attitude. He had the ability to make even routine situations seem exciting, and he was at ease with the role of playing problem solver. Gilbert always sought out the scene of where the action was. Sociable, analytical and pleasant, Gilbert was an individual who enjoyed lifes challenges. His parents were William and Mabel Fillion. Gilbert was raised in Bruce and Ladysmith, Wisconsin. Always able to express himself well, Gilbert possessed strong interpersonal skills. He was optimistic in his outlook on life and was able at all times to be open and direct in his communication. Armed with a great wit, Gilbert was raised to be accepting of others and to implement a strong personal work ethic. Blessed with a balanced attitude, Gilbert was able to relate well with others. His occasional role as family mediator gave him the opportunity to ease tense situations when they occurred. Gilbert was raised with eleven siblings. Gilbert had a strong desire to be treated fairly and would readily offer others the same fairness in return. As a young child, Gilbert showed his creative ability in many ways. He was outgoing and animated. Gilbert enjoyed new activities and pursued a variety of interests. He took part in baseball. In his spare time he liked fishing and hunting. Known to others as a focused, logical, open-minded and somewhat driven individual, Gilbert was able to utilize these qualities to succeed in high school. His curious nature was spurred by his ability to maximize his personal learning style through employing a hands-on approach. He was good with facts and had an excellent memory. He graduated from Rusk Public School in 1937. He enjoyed some courses more than others, having favorite classes and teachers. His favorite class in high school was Math. When the goal of additional education was in sight, it became important to Gilbert. Again, his direct, down to earth approach served him well. He was able to absorb complex concepts and had an acute sense of how things worked. He earned his Basic Radio-Electronic Certificate. Friends and acquaintances found Gilbert an easy man to get to know, and those close to him would often praise his open, practical style of communication and relaxed approach to life in general. Gilbert was uncomplicated and straightforward in his relationships, which allowed him to accept people for what they were. While growing up, some of his best friends were his brothers. Later in life, he became friends with Poncho, Rallie, and Gordy. On 1, 1942 Gilbert exchanged wedding vows with Lucille Mary Charley at the Justice of Peace Church of St. Paul, Minnesota. Gilbert was attentive to Lucilles feelings, and he charmed Lucille and others with his gift for being able to give freely and generously. A good listener with an engaging personality, Gilbert was able to bring pleasure and unexpected humor to the relationship. Very much like a kid himself, Gilbert identified with the inquisitive and creative side of his childrens personalities. He was able to direct his energy and spontaneity towards helping his children acquire added common sense skills. Gilbert was blessed with six children, three sons, Gilbert, Dean and Ralph, and three daughters, Sue, Diana, and Gail. were also blessed with four grandchildren, Monique, Dean, Suzette and Titan and four great grandchildren. Gilbert was a flexible worker who was able to draw the best from others around him. A persuasive individual who was quick to make necessary decisions, Gilberts strengths included being able to think on his feet. He could be a leader who sought impact for his decisions. Gifted with an incredible ability to read body language, Gilbert was able to positively manipulate situations and motivate others in order to get a task completed. He was a good negotiator who enjoyed new challenges. Gilbert could multi-task, and he was endowed with entrepreneurial spirit, allowing him to think beyond standard norms when it came to resolving issues in his work environment. His primary occupation was Electrical Technician. He was mostly self-employed. He also worked at Boeing for awhile and was a TV repairman. Gilbert was an Army veteran. Gilbert was a cool thinker who could handle himself well in a crisis. Gilbert saw action for World War II. He achieved the rank of Corporal. He received several awards including a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He showed leadership qualities and could make tough decisions when he was called upon to do so. Gilbert enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. He had something of an artistic flair in many of the things that he did. He put this creativity toward all of his pastimes. His favorite pursuits were wood working, making furniture and building a hope chess. He was content to enjoy his hobbies alone but was also willing to share his interests with others. Because he liked to take risks, Gilbert was a perfect match for athletics and exercise. He was enthusiastic and confident about these activities. In high school, Gilbert played baseball and softball. Recreational sports included baseball and softball. Gilbert was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed watching his favorite events whenever he got the opportunity. Tops on his list were baseball and football. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and the Seattle Mariners. Gilbert was a gifted problem solver who worked hard to help accomplish group goals. This skill made him a wonderful asset to the various groups and organizations to which he belonged. Always matter-of-fact about what needed to be done, Gilbert worked steadily to meet any organizations goals. Obituary: Vernon Justus Filler Vernon Justus Filler was born Febuary 25th, 1946, in Harvey, ND to Herbert and Antonia (Welk) Filler. He passed away on 13th, 2014 after suffering a 2nd stroke. His childhood years were spent on the family farm, attending elementary school in Orrin, ND. working at various jobs in North Dakota, he came to South Dakota and learned the bakery business from his brothers.He worked in Pierre, South Dakota before relocating to Washington state. As he gained journeyman bakery skills, he was employed as a Manager for the Safeway Corp. His gift of being able to bring a bakery into a profitable status caused him to rotate to many stores throughout the Seattle-Metro area. He was an entrepreneur at heart, owning multiple businesses through-out his life. His creativity included the production of a wide variety of bakery products. He also decorated beautiful wedding and custom cakes. Upon leaving the bakery business after 36 yrs, he took on the challenge of painting contractor for the next 10 yrs. He was known for his integrity, perseverance, his quick wit, sense of humor and his word being his bond. several illnesses he came to a place of peace that defied a fear of dying. He was a sincere believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and is now worshipping the Father with the angels. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Antonia (Welk) Filler, brothers Herbert Jr., James and infant John, sisters Beatrice Hayes and infant Antoinette. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Geri), son Robert Vernon of Auburn, WA, daughters Antoinette Marie Iwamoto of Federal Way, WA, Mary Kay (Mark) Kuryla of Kirkland, WA and Paula Jeanne (John) Fortier of Monroe, WA, brothers Lloyd (Phyllis) of Winner, SD and Charles of Pierre, SD, sisters Shirley Ann (Eddie) Weigel of Velva, ND, Karene (Maurice) Helms of West Columbia, SC, Margarete (Tom) Graves of Lexington, SC, and Helen (Bill) Ruppel of Puyullap, WA, Grandchildren Kris (Collie), Brittany, Amanda, Brad, and Rachel, Great-grandchildren Kainen, Alexsis, Cameron, Kimberly and James, also many nieces, nephews and cousins. A grave-side service will be held on Sat. 19th, 2014, at 1 PM at I00F , 21714 Old Owen Rd., Monroe, WA with Pastor Tony Ramos officiating. A memorial service will be held at the Colville Assembly of God Church, 516 E.
