Obituary: The life and times of Hisako Faussett.
Hisako was born in Okinawa, Japan during WWII. Near the end of the war, she was wounded by shrapnel or rifle fire. She was wounded in the mouth and had to wait several years before the damage could be fixed.
She grew into a beautiful woman who was very strong, independent and adventurous. In 1966, she and Mike Faussett fell in love and were married two days before Christmas of that year. left for the US the following . She was not eligible to fly with Mike on military flights, and so began the first of many solo trips. Pretty daunting for a young woman.
In 1968, Mike and Hisako had a son, Adam. Mike was sent to Germany and during this year, she flew her infant son Seattle to Germany to join him. The trip was extremely difficult. She encountered a passport problem, which caused a missed flight. The problems didn't end there. The plane made a stop in Copenhagen and a visa problem caused her to spend the night before continuing her journey. But Hisako was one tough, independent woman who never gave up and figured it all out. Mike finished his military duty, she again made the solo transcontinental flight with an infant son in her arms.
Mike and Hisako settled their family in Everett, Washington while Mike attended Edmonds Community . Hisako spent her time raising Adam and selling cosmetics.
The family moved Lynnwood where she began working as a waitress and dealing with daycare and preschool. lived in a large apartment complex, made new friends and raised a growing boy. Birthday parties and Christmas presents were big those years.
Hisako studied really hard and was proud to become an American citizen.
In 1973, Hisako and Mike became the proud owners of their first home in Kirkland. Adam started kindergarten that year. Hisako continued to work as a waitress but soon moved on to making backpacks for JanSport in Everett and later she became the pet department manager at Kmart in Bellevue. She was really proud of that job. The new home gave Hisako a new interest. She learned how to garden and landscape. She had found a new love. She spent many hours planting and tending the yard and a vegetable garden. She got a lot of compliments on the yard and our vegetable bill went down.
Hisako was not afraid of new adventure. She moved on to a company called Electrovoice that made speakers and soundboards. Then to Sundstrand, Zetron and Fluke Manufacturing where she inspected circuit boards. Along the way, she packed vegetables and spent some time cleaning Bill Boeing's house. Hisako never slowed down. She only had one speed. Fast.
While we lived in Kirkland, we spent some time as a host family for exchange students from Japan. We took our students on day trips to Vancouver, Snoqualmie Falls and the Seattle .
Hisako became the designated driver for soccer practice, karate lessons, baseball practice and bike racing. The most important person in Hisako's life had become Adam, whom she referred to as her diamond from day one.
We spent a couple of years in Bellingham where she remained busy. We became long distance landlords as we had rented out our Kirkland home. We moved back to Kirkland , but didn't stay long in our rental.
Our last move was to our present house, a mile away. More gardening and landscaping for Hisako. We lived there for 24 years and she was busy every day. But, her heart still belonged to her diamond. Many visits, but she always wanted more. She couldn't get enough.
In her lifetime, Hisako became a world traveler - visiting many states and countries. Over the years, we took many trips near and far. The first trip started in New Jersey and ended up in Monroe with a side trip to visit her brother-in-law in Florida. 5000 miles with an infant and she never complained. She could not have imagined how big this country was. She grew up on an island that was 90 miles long and 3 miles wide.
We visited two world fairs, one in Spokane and the other in Vancouver, BC. We made annual trips to Soap Lake to visit Mike's parents. We tried to find a different route each time. We went up through Canada on our way back one time. We stayed overnight in a log cabin, and fished in a river behind it. We cooked the fish on an open fire on the riverside.
Hisako was a big baseball fan, so we made a trip one year to Spring Training in Arizona. She had a great time and even got to talk to Jamie Moyer who was her favorite player.
She enjoyed Reno and Las Vegas with a side trip to the Grand Canyon. Los Angeles and San Diego to visit a cousin with a side trip to Mexico were next. We made a run to Bakersfield on another trip to just to watch Adam race. During our stay in Germany, we also visited France, Luxembourg and Belgium.
On a trip to visit a cousin in Bremerton, Hisako adopted Izzy, a pomapoo puppy. Mike got her brother Dizzy. became a part of our life for the next 10 years. Hisako really loved her puppies. Mike called them the grandchildren Hisako always wanted. were our Grand dogs.
Hisako got sick about that time. We never really knew exactly what she had. It just seemed to suck out all her energy. She never complained much. She had a way of pulling herself together when she was around other people. She had some good days too.
Hisako had one more trip in her. She had always wanted to visit Hawaii. So we went. She was feeling pretty good during the time we were there. A lot of it had to do with there continued...

Born 15, l925 to Carrie and Edward Dau in Hooper, Mary joined a lively family of five older brothers and eventually one younger sister.
