Obituary: Ray William Frantz Jr., age 91, died on 11, 2015 in Harrisonburg, Va where he and his wife resided near their daughter for the past year. He was born on 17, 1923 in Princeton, Kentucky, the son of Ray William and Marjorie Kevil Frantz. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris. He is survived by their children Katherine Campbell of Harrisonburg, Va and Paul Frantz of New Orleans, LA, as well as, his grandchildren Sara, Hannah, and Pinki who loved him dearly as he did them. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska where he attained a B.A in English. He attended graduate school at the University of Illinois where he earned Master degrees in Library Science and English. He also received a Ph.D in English from the University of Illinois. He was the past president of the National Association of Research Libraries, Vice President of the 18th Century Short Titled Catalog and past president of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries. He served as the Head Librarian at the University of Richmond from 1955 to 1960, Assistant Librarian at Ohio State University from 1960 to 1962, Head Librarian of the University of Wyoming from 1962 to 1967, and the Head Librarian at the University of Virginia from 1967 to 1993. His greatest pleasure was working with faculty and library staff in building the collections which grew to over one million volumes at his retirement. He enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 89th infantry division in the European theater during World War II. He was in sports all of his life: track, golf, baseball, climbed briefly in the Tetons, canoed the Snake River, and loved to step into a stream and try to outwit a trout. Reading and music were constant companions. This, and above all, his wife of 64 years Doris, his children and grandchildren made for a happy life. Friends and family are invited to drop by his daughter Kathie's home from 4:30-6:30pm on 13th, 2015. There will be a private family memorial service. Obituary: Doris Methvin Frantz, age 90, died on 23, 2015 in Harrisonburg, VA where she and her husband resided, near her daughter, for the past year. She was born on May 9, 1924 in Leoma, Tennessee, the daughter of Ernest Hugh and Lula Rushing Methvin. She was preceded in death by her brothers Kenneth and Max and is survived by her brothers Carroll and Ray, and sister Faye. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Ray, of 64 years. She is also survived by her children Katherine Campbell of Harrisonburg and Paul of New Orleans, as well as, her grandchildren Sara, Hannah and Pinki. Doris was a graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and the University of Illinois where she attained a Masters degree in Librarianship. Over the span of her career, she worked as a librarian in university and regional public libraries, as well as, Charlottesville High School. She had a passion for reading and love of learning that she shared with her family. She felt strongly that education should be provided equally to all. She was an advocate for human rights and equality, actively participating in local and national politics and organizations. She gave generously to numerous humanitarian causes. Doris loved and adored her grandchildren, enjoyed spending time with family, playing the piano and singing with the Oratorio Society of Virginia, traveling around the world, hiking, fishing, and a good round of golf. Friends and family are invited to drop by her daughter Kathie's home from 4:30 to 6:30 pm on , 27th. There will be a private family memorial service. Obituary: Jason Alexander Franks, age 26, of Rochester Hills, Michigan, was gathered in the Lords arms unexpectedly while serving his country in the United States Navy on , the 5th of 2011. He grew up in Rochester Hills, Michigan and graduated from Adams High School, class of 2003. Prior to his enlistment, Jason was active in the Kensington Community Church Youth Program and participated in a Missions Trip to Nicaragua. His interests included motor sports, fishing and aviation. Jason volunteered for duty in the United States Navy on the 10th of 2004 attending Naval Recruit Training Command Great Lakes. He followed that by his selection to attend Aviation Electronics Technician School at Naval Aviation Technical Training Pensacola Florida graduating in the summer of 2005. Upon graduation he entered the F/A-18E/F avionic school pipeline of instruction. Jason was then assigned to the VFA-106 Gladiators squadron located at Naval Air Station Oceana, VA that had just recently received the newest fighter attack aircraft in the United States Navy inventory. Jasons Tour with the Gladiators he reported to the VFA-31 Tomcatters, call sign Felix, one of the most prestigious squadrons in the Navy, also home ported at NAS Oceana in of 2007. While assigned at VFA-31 he served in numerous positions achieving multiple maintenance and professional qualifications to support the mission of the squadron and the United States Navy. During his tour of duty with VFA-31 he deployed onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He also just recently completed an inter deployment workup cycle onboard the United States Navys newest aircraft carrier USS George Herbert Walker Bush CVN-77. His earned and awarded decorations included: the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist device, Junior Sailor of the Month 2008/ 2010, Junior Sailor of the Quarter 2010, Letter of Commendation in superior performance of his duties and the United States Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Jason is survived by his loving parents, Michael and Deborah Franks, Sister Jordan and brother Jared, all of Rochester Hills; grandparents, Alex and Sally Meklus of Aurora, Ohio and beloved aunts, uncle and nieces. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m. , 12th at the Kensington Community Church, 1825 E. Square Lake Road Troy, MI 48085 with the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Private burial services with Military Honors will be at the Van Hoosen Jones-Stoney Creek of Rochester.
