Obituary: Dan Folzenlogen passed away suddenly at home on 22, 2015. He had fought so many illnesses during his last years that he was known as the Comeback Kid. Dan was born in Dallas, TX on 18, 1930, the son of Michael and Christine Folzenlogen. He is survived by his devoted wife, Doreen, and his beloved daughters, Joan (Paul) Peterson of Williamsburg, VA and Susan (Tom) Raykovich of Rhinelander, WI. He was the adored Boppa of Lexie Reimer (Joel), Heidi Peterson, Josh Peterson, Kirstie Peterson, Jessie Raykovich, and Nikki Raykovich. He loved and treasured all of his grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments. Dan is also survived by two brothers, Fr. John Folzenlogen, S.J. and Paul (Jeanie) Folzenlogen and a sister, J. Diane Stanley (Ed). graduating from Southern Methodist University Law School in Dallas, TX, Dan spent his entire career as an attorney in the Chief Counsels Office of the Internal Revenue Service, rising to the job he always wanted as Special Appellate Counsel. Along the way he gathered many honors. He was a member of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, the Texas State Bar, and a charter member of the Senior Executive Service. Upon retirement in 1993 he was given the Chief Counsels Award and the Commissioners Award for his outstanding personal contribution to those Offices. He was also recognized by the Department of Justice for his work with them. Dan was most proud that he received the prestigious Albert Gallatin Award from the Department of the Treasury. This is the highest career service award that the Treasury Department gives. It has been said that Dans position was abolished when he retired because it would have taken two people to replace him. No one had his broad historic knowledge. Dan was an avid fisherman, loving to sit out on his pier or go out in the boat. It didn seem to matter that much whether he caught anything. It was the joy of being on the water. He loved living in Mathews after 32 years in Northern Virginia and never wanted to leave. He had been President of the Sail Cove Property Owners Association and he also was an AARP tax aide at one time. He kept up with his daily legal research even studying furiously on his last day about the loss of navigational aids in Queens Creek. A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Elisa D. Wheeler will be held on , 29, at 3 p.m. (visitation at 2 p.m.) at the Foster-Faulkner funeral home. Another memorial service will be held in Dallas at a later date for Dans Texas relatives. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the charity of ones choice. |
