Obituary: Georgia Rose Bushell Fare, 91, passed away on , May 6, 2016. Services will be held at 2:00 PM , May 11, 2016 at Elliott-Hamil , 5701 Hwy 277 South, with Danny Minton and Richard Melton of Southern Hills Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM , May 10, 2016 at the funeral home. Georgia was born in Stamford, Texas, on 15, 1924 to Edward A. and Era Mae (Fauth) Bushell. She married John W. (J.W.) Fare on Christmas Day, 25, 1946 in Stamford, Texas. The couple moved from Stamford to Abilene in 1953. Georgia graduated from Stamford High School and attended business college in Dallas, Texas. She worked on the production line for the renowned WWII P51 fighter plane. Her small stature won her the job of crawling into the tail cone of the plane to hold the backing plate for a riveter outside the plane. With her middle name being "Rose", coworkers soon nicknamed her "Rosie the Riveter", taking inspiration from the famous WWII song and posters encouraging women to join the workforce. Georgia took to heart the We can do it! motto, and this philosophy served her well throughout her life. Georgia was a homemaker and nurturing mother of four children and enjoyed the companionship of family and friends, especially over a good cup of coffee. She was an industrious seamstress, enjoyed gardening, and played endlessly with her grandchildren as they were growing up and was very involved with their activities. Georgia cooked legendary fried chicken, lemon meringue pie, and chocolate chip cookies. No one left the Fare home hungry or without a big smile and hug. Georgia was always known to be happy, smiling, unselfish, and loved to laugh and tell jokes. In 1980, the devastating death of Georgia and J.W.'s third child Cindy, due to cancer, took a toll on the family. It was soon after that Georgia rejoined the workforce at the Buffalo Gap Rd location of K-Mart, where she worked for ten years and formed numerous relationships with customers and coworkers of all ages. Georgia had a knack of relating well to teenagers, young adults, and all those in between. Her personality was the key to her success and she never met a stranger. Georgia was a lifelong member of Southern Hills Church of Christ in Abilene where she taught children's classes, helped with vacation bible school, hosted devotionals for the youth group, attended women's bible study classes, and belonged to a shepherding group. Georgia eagerly volunteered her time and cooking talents to provide food to families when called upon, and participated with the women's service group. Georgia formed lasting friendships with many church members and she will be sorely missed. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband J.W in 1988.; daughter Cindy Fare Webb; two brothers Bill "Sonny" Bushell and Harry Bushell; two sisters, Daisy Ruth Bushell and Doris Bushell Sanders. Survivors include two sons, Johnny L. Fare and wife Joannie of Thousand Oaks, California, and Sammy W. Fare and wife Helen, of Pace, Florida; one daughter, Lana K. Fare Manley and husband Danny W. Manley of Abilene; two sisters, Kathryn Buske of Stamford, and Betty Buntin of Hewitt; three sisters-in-law Betty Davis of San Angelo, Bea Plumlee of Houston, and Grace Fare of Sulphur, Oklahoma; three grandchildren Emily Rose Fare of Thousand Oaks, California, Colton Neil Manley and wife Kristin of Roscoe, and Morgan Kate Manley of Stephenville; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr .Thomas Headstream and staff, Dr. George Dawson and staff of Hospice of the Big Country, and ARMC ER Dept along with the nursing staff on 2nd and 5th floors for the excellent care Georgia received during her illness. The care and compassion shown to our Mother exceeded that of any other and was greatly appreciated. The family would also like to extend appreciation to Windcrest & Rehab for the loving care provided to Mom during her time there as well. Memorials in Georgia's name may be sent to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford St, Abilene, TX 79605. |
