Obituary: BENBROOK -- Roberta Steagall Fanning, 88, a retired registered nurse, passed away , 17, 2014. Celebration of life: 3 to 5 p.m. , 29, at Ridglea Country Club in the Garden Room. Roberta was born Nov. 7, 1925, in Fort Worth to Robert Jobe and Hattie Lou Cox Steagall. moved to a farm near Keller in 1934. attending school at Roanoke, Keller, Denton Demonstration High School and North Texas State University, she graduated from St. Joseph Hospitals School of in 1945, after which she worked as night supervisor in pediatrics at St. Josephs Hospital. Next, in 1946, she accepted employment at the U.S. Public Service Hospital, Fort Worth, first in general nursing and then as head nurse in surgery. In 1948, she commenced work as a school nurse in the Fort Worth public schools until 1951. During 1952 and 1953, Roberta worked as office nurse in San Diego, Calif., and from 1954 to 1956 as office nurse in the Thomas Spann Clinic, Corpus Christi. While Roberta had not worked since that time in professional nursing, many times she assisted family and friends with her nursing skills. On Sept. 1, 1946, she married her childhood sweetheart, Frank Leon Fanning, who had been her first date. He served as a Navy officer during World War II and achieved the grade of Navy captain. He served on six ships plus on several staffs and shore stations. Thirteen moves took them to San Diego, Long Beach and San Francisco, Calif.; Tacoma, Wash.; Corpus Christi; Great Lakes, Ill.; Steubenville, Ohio; McKeesport, Pa.; Brooklyn, N.Y.; Washington, D.C.; Norfolk, Va.; Omaha, Neb.; and Pensacola, Fla. Her daughter, Leslie Lynne Fanning Corbin, was born in 1961 in Long Beach, Calif. Another highlight of their lives was a nearly three-year tour in Naples, Italy, which gave them a chance to visit most of the European countries. Roberta took up golf on the naval air station in Pensacola, Fla. The year of 1975 was a good one golf-wise. She broke both 100 and 90, won her flight in a golf tournament, was awarded a plaque as most improved lady golfer in the A.C. READ Golf Club. The Fanning family traveled a great deal, sampled new food and adapted to all sorts of people, climates and conditions. The most difficult part was several long separations in connection with ship deployments. Like other Navy wives, Roberta earned a reputation as a hostess with several exotic dishes in her repertoire. The formal and informal parties were frequent, as Navy families don lack for good friends. Her favorite recipe is the Neapolitan specialty called Vermicelli a la Vongole. Her famous recipe is shared here: Sauce: 2 cloves of garlic 1 tsp. parsley, dry or fresh Pinch of dry basil 1 4.5-ounce can of Italian tomatoes, chopped. Discard excess liquid 2 cans chopped clams with liquid 1/4 cup olive oil Procedure: Saute garlic in oil. Do not burn; use low heat. Add chopped Italian tomatoes. Add all other ingredients, except clams. Simmer over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes until the mixture looks like a sauce. Add clams and liquid to the sauce, which should be nice and thick, and heat to just boiling. Do not boil because the clams will be tough. Cook vermicelli in salted water a la dente -- do not overcook. Place vermicelli in serving bowls and spoon vongole over pasta. Sprinkle with a little finely ground black pepper and serve with sourdough rolls, which can be dipped in the sauce. Capt. Fanning retired from Navy service after 32 years and they moved to the Lone Star State where their mothers and other relatives lived. custom-built their home in Ridglea Country Club Estates and joined Ridglea Country Club, where Frank and Roberta played golf three to five times a week. Roberta became so accomplished in golf that she achieved the handicap of seven, won many tournaments and became president of the Ladies Golf Association. More than anything, Roberta enjoyed all of her friends at the country club and continued playing golf into her mid-80s. Obituary: JUSTIN LOUIS FANNING 29, 1981 to 9, 2014 Graduated from Highland Park High School in 2000. Graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2005. Justin was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Cobbs Fanning, his grandmothers, Carolyn Parker Fanning and Mary Victoria Cobbs. He is survived by his father, Barry Fanning and brother, Charlie Fanning, grandparents Margaret and Robert Fanning, grandfather Louis Cobbs and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Justin loved to cook and many enjoyed his culinary and grilling skills. Justin made cooking his lifes work and he was employed as the head shift cook on board an Ensco drilling rig off the coast of Louisiana. He also had a passion for OU football and after attending 3 unsuccessful OU bowl games, his quest was fulfilled in this years Sugar Bowl defeating Alabama which he attended with his Dad. Obituary: Joseph “Joe” Edward Fanning, 57, passed away peacefully on 6, 2016. He was born on 30, 1958 to Jerry D. and Patsty (Hulan) Fanning in Dallas, TX. Ms. Fanning was born on 31, 1918 in Marshall, Texas, the younger daughter of Roy and Alva Fields. She graduated from Linden High School, and subsequently attended business school.
