Obituary: Sam H. Frierson, Jr. LEXINGTON - Sam H. Frierson, Jr., Retired Lieutenant South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) passed away peacefully on 20, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sumter, SC, Mr. Frierson was raised in Charleston, SC and graduated from Rivers High School. He was a 1972 graduate of the University of Louisville Southern Police Institute in Police Science and Administration. He served honorably in the South Carolina Army National Guard. Mr. Frierson began a lengthy and dedicated career in public service with the City of Charleston Fire Department, of Charleston Police Department (uniformed patrolman and Detective) and was hired as an Agent by SLED in 1971. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant prior to his retirement. He was later employed by Garda Cash Logistics as a Corporate Investigator covering the states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia for fourteen years. Mr. Frierson coached for many years in the Lexington Youth Leagues in football, baseball and basketball. He developed lifelong friendships with a number of his players and parents, many of whom still called him "Coach". He was a more than avid fan of the Gamecocks! Mr. Frierson is survived by his beloved wife, Margie; adored children, Theresa (Mark) Corbin, Lynne Thomas, Sam H. III (Letty), Randall W. (Tracy); adored grandchildren, Emory, Marjorie and Ethan Corbin, Alyssa (James III) Hewitt and Amy Thomas, Sydni, Cassidy and Luke Frierson, Morgan and Evelyn Frierson and Jackie Madrid; especially adored great-grandson, Michael Peyton Hewitt; sisters, Evelyn F. Dove of Goose Creek, Georgia F. Reeves of Walterboro, Joyce F. Wright of Goose Creek; and many nieces and nephews; and special "son", Neal Davis of Charlotte, NC. Also, his four legged best buddies, Jake and Elwood. He was predeceased by grandson, Joshua Gunnar Frierson; son-in-law, Michael L. Thomas; his parents, Charleston City PD Captain, Sam H. Frierson and Lottie F. Frierson; and sister, Lillian F. Harlan. Special thanks to Dr. Steven Hsu Kwo Chin of the MUSC-Hollings Cancer and his staff for their excellent and compassionate care, as well as the staff of Intramed Plus, particularly Debbie Gordon, as well as the staff of Blue Ridge Hospice, especially LaDonya Hallman and Rachel Weeks. A funeral mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 a Highway, Lexington, SC, on , 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.. The family will receive guests in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Caughman-Harman , Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements. Obituary: Mrs. Lillie Bell Johnson Frierson was born 3, 1949 in Florence, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Elder Ernest Sr. and Edith Holmes Johnson. She departed this life on , 29, 2017. Lillie Bell attended the public schools of Florence , and was a 1969 graduate of Wilson Senior High School. She was formerly employed with Carolinas Hospital System as an Operating Room Technician, retiring with over 40 years of service. In her early years, Lillie Bell was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Later, she joined Greater Gethsemane Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, where she was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and she received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She was also a member of the Senior Choir and Team #2. Lillie Bell loved the Lord and her family. She loved singing and listening to gospel to songs. She was a big lover of quartet singing. Lillie Bell was a very humble, kind and giving person with a quiet spirit, yet her faith was strong. During her final weeks, her testimony to her family was, “Rest assure, I’m sending up my timber every day, and one day I will see Jesus’ face in peace.” Although she did not birth children, Lillie Bell often referred to her two youngest sisters, “Scooter” and Ann as “her babies.” Being 22 years older, she was often mistaken as their mama because she was the one who was seen with them at birthday parties, at the park, and on trips. She often dressed them for church and school, helped with homework, rewarded good grades and spanked them real good if it was needed. Lillie Bell would often talk about the “old days,” hard work and what it was like for her being the oldest child of the family. She could always light up a room with her smile and laughter that was so contagious that everyone around her was sure to have a great time, no matter what the occasion. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio B. Frierson. Those left to cherish precious memories include: two brothers, Ernest Johnson, Jr. and Leroy (Natalie) Johnson, both of Florence, SC; three sisters: Emma (Roland) Ford, Jackie Johnson and Ann Johnson, all of Florence, SC; two nephews, Carlos (Bonnie) Tinsley of Florence, SC and Roland (Keisha) Ford of Tampa, FL; three nieces: Angel (William) Profit, Tamara Ford and Danielle (Christopher) Echols of Florence, SC; four great-nephews: Clay, Ahmad and Xavion Ford of Enterprise, AL; and Zion Echols of Florence, SC; four great-nieces: Ramona, Deja and Shay Echols, of Florence, SC; and Chequetta Johnson of Columbia, SC; her best friends since 2nd grade, Shirley Paige; and a host of other relatives and friends. |

Obituary: Mr. Franklin Smokie Fullard Frierson, son of Morgan and Maddie Ruth Benjamin Frierson, was born 4, 1940 in Effingham, SC. He departed this life on , 6, 2016 at McLeod Regional Medical in Florence, SC after an illness. Smokie,as he was lovingly called, was a graduate of Wilson High School. He also attended truck driving school in New Jersey where he received his CDL license. He was formerly employed with Lazy Boy and Horry Electric . Smokie also drove cab for a season. He was married to Etrulia Ellen Williams Frierson. The couple resided in Florence, SC. Smokie was a no nonsense, laid back kind of guy who had no problem speaking his mind. He was his wifes knight in shining armor and she was his sweetheart! He loved to sit on the porch and wave at and talk to passersby. He was a passionate pet lover and his little dog Bella was constantly at his side. He was a good friend to those in his community. In addition to his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Maxie Son and Martha E. Obituary: Ms. Ernestine Frierson was born on 2, 1940 in Effingham, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Woodrow and Mrs. Odessa DeVaughan Frierson. On , 29, 2015, she departed this life at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, S.C. Tine, as she was affectionately called, was educated in the Florence Public Schools. She graduated from Wilson High School and was an active member of the alumni class of 1958. She also graduated from Friendship Junior in Rock Hill, SC. She was employed as a Secretary at Wilson High School and later at DuPont Industries of Florence. She retired after serving 31 years at DuPont. Ernestine joined the Meadow Prong Baptist Church in Effingham, SC at an early age. She later became the church secretary and coordinated several annual programs, such as church anniversary celebration. Her community involvement included membership with the Effingham Branch of the NAACP, member of the Florence Foster Review Board, and Associate Matron of Beacon Light Chapter #230 Order of Eastern Star. She was a long-time member of a community prayer group. Ernestine enjoyed home interior decorating, cooking, and experimenting with new recipes. Her family grew fruits and vegetables and her home was a gathering place where all who stopped by could enjoy a meal. During her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and serving as a Census Taker. Ernestine loved church hymns and gospel songs like, Lord I Want to Live For Thee, When the Gates Swing Open, I Still Have A Praise Inside of Me, His Eye is on the Sparrow, and Amazing Grace, and like the verse in that latter hymn, hrough many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come, Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home, she knew that it was Gods grace that kept her throughout life, even after the passing of her beloved father and mother, and grace that sustained her on that hill of red clay dirt in Effingham. Ernestine leaves to cherish her love and fond memories: two aunts, Edna Jordan Frierson of Washington, DC and Olivia Frierson of Englewood, NJ; a special friend, Marlin Hughes; and a host of other relatives and friends. |
