Obituary: Ethel Fern Forsyth, 94 years of age, passed away on 13, 2014, at Marshall Hospital. Ethel was born in Gibbstown, New Jersey on 17th, 1917, her family moved to Pontiac, Michigan, where her mother died when Ethel was ten years old. During World War II she served as a corporal in the Womens Army Corps in Europe. Following the war, she moved to Southern California and in 1955 she moved to Rancho Cordova where she met Tom Forsyth of Placerville while working at Aerojet. married in 1967 and she lived in their home on Weber Creek at Old Green Valley Road until 2011, when she moved to Saint Claire Shores, Michigan to live with her niece Cindy Cizmas and Cindys husband Rich. In 2012, she returned to Placerville and was a resident of the Gold Country Retirement Community until her death. Ethel was an active member of the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Womens Army Corps Association, the Women in Military Association and the 9th Air Force Association. She was a donor to the Snowline Hospice and was very active in the American Cancer Society, driving patients to appointments in Sacramento and working in the society thrift shop. She also belonged to the Placerville Shakespeare Club, the Placerville Newcomers Club and the Hangtown Grange. She volunteered at the Upper Room and at the New Morning Youth Shelter Jamboree. In 2008 the Shakespeare Club sponsored her to become the El Dorado Rose and she remained active as a former Rose until she moved to Michigan. Her husband, Tom, passed away in 1998 after the couple had been married 32 years; her son, Peter, died in 2003. She is survived by two step-children, Bill Forsyth of Kapolei, Hawaii, and Ruth Forsyth of Ballard, Washington, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. All of her siblings have passed away, but in Michigan, she had many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 9/22/2014 at 11:00 am (visitation 10 \ 11), Chapel of the Pines , 2855 Cold Springs Road, Placerville, CA. Burial to follow at Westwood Hills Memorial Park.
