Obituary: Philip M. Flowers, 89, formerly of the Fishtown area of Philadelphia, Glenside, Lansdale (34 years), and most recently the Masonic Village in Lafayette Hill, went home to be with the Lord , 8, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Florence “Floss†(Baker) Flowers, to whom he was happily married for 66 years. Born 12, 1922 in Philadelphia, he was the son of William H. Flowers, Jr. and Alice (Myers) Flowers. Mr. Flowers graduated from Northeast High School in Philadelphia in 1940 and the Wharton School of the University Of Pennsylvania in 1950. He served in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary during World War II. He was employed by the Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance from 1940 to 1984 and served as manager of the finance department at the time of his retirement. Mr. Flowers was an active member of Bethel Hill United Methodist Church, the second oldest Methodist church in Pennsylvania, and a Master Mason of Friendship-Williams Masonic Lodge of Jenkintown, PA for 55 years. He and his wife served Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the Golden Living , both in Lansdale, for over 20 years. Previously, they had served 10 years as counselors for the Methodist Youth Fellowship in Glenside. His hobbies included the painting of landscapes, ship model building, assembly of grandfather clocks, and woodworking, particularly the building of furniture and performance scenery. Mr. Flowers is survived by his loving wife, Floss, a daughter Dorothy Gerard and her husband Lex of Towamencin, a grandson Philip of Phoenix, AZ, a granddaughter Charlotte Russo and her husband Sam of Warrington, as well as extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. A memorial service will be held , 18, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Bethel Hill United Methodist Church, 2000 Bethel Road, Lansdale, PA 19446 (Bethel Road and Route 73), followed by a reception. Interment will be private in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Flowers name to Bethel Hill United Methodist Church. |
