Obituary: James R. Fuglestad passed away 16, 2015 after a short and difficult battle with kidney cancer. He achieved his life goals of being a good friend, a great husband, a loving father and a wonderful Papa to his grandchildren. He loved playing golf, especially with his friends at the Mt. Hood Golf Club. We will never forget his bright smile and sense of humor. He will truly be missed. He grew up in Seattle and went to Chief Sealth High School, graduating in 1967. He was the youngest of five, with three older brothers and one older sister (Bernie, Leonard, Bob, and Shirley). graduation, Jim enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He later received honorable discharge and moved to Portland. In Portland, he met the love of his life, Judy Geisler Fuglestad, who lived in the same apartment complex as he did. were married 18, 1973 and settled in their first home in Milwaukie, Oregon. Jim worked for Chiquita Banana for several years, and eventually moved down to Huntington Beach, California for his career. In 1980, they moved back to Oregon and both Jim and Judy worked for Gem Top Manufacturing, who at the time was the leading manufacturer of steel tops for trucks. Jim loved to play golf. He was the President of the Mt. Hood Golf Club in 2003 and a three time winner of the Mens Club Championship in 2000, 2001 and 2008. He was runner up three additional years. He worked hard on his game, and at one point was a 5 handicap, but generally a solid 7 handicap for most of his golfing years. Jim probably beat each and every golfer here at least once. He loved to participate in other tournaments when invited. He played in several Professional Amateur Tournaments and was very proud of his not one, but two Bandon Dunes trophies (2009 and 2012). One of his most favorite things to do was play golf with his son, Rian. played in small tournaments with his friends and all around Central Oregon. He bought his grandson, Nolan, his first set of clubs, and was very proud that Nolan could hit a large bucket of golf balls in less than 10 minutes. Jim was an amazing Father and Grandfather. He was always there for all of us, in his own way. He tracked all of our activities, careers, and life events. Jim helped work on all of our house remodels, projects, and always had some project going on at his own house. Every year he looked forward to vacations in Maui with his family including the Jochims, and to wine country with his friends the Underwoods. He loved taking his Grandkids to all of their activities, practices and soccer camps. He never complained when he had to do the occasional ballet bun for his granddaughter, Ellie. He loved his family so much. Jim is survived by his wife Judy; daughter Amy and her husband Matt; his son Rian; and his grandchildren Ellie and Nolan. We were not ready for him to go, he will be missed. A quote from one of Jims favorite movies: The Shawshank Redemption Red: I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty now that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend.
