Obituary: Ms. Ilda Mae Farnum died 19, 2015 at her home in Greensboro under the care of Hospice of the Piedmont. A celebration of life and remembrance will be offered at 6 p.m. , 26, 2015 at First Christian Church Greensboro, Pastor Lee Hull Moses officiating. A reception will be given by the Enrichment Committee of First Christian Church following the service. Ms. Farnums cremains will be transported to First Christian, Haines City, Florida to share a niche with her late husband, Clark Leslie Farnum. She was born in Danforth Maine to the late David Herman Corson, a public school superintendent as well as a legislator for the State of Maine, and Lillian Gladys Beauregard Corson, a public school teacher. Ilda graduated from Hodgedon High School and Farmington State Normal School where she was involved in student government and women's athletics. She also met and fell in love with her husband, Clark Leslie Farnum, a career educator. Ilda and Les were married from 1943 until his death in 1998. Ilda enjoyed gardening, reading good books, crossword puzzles, volunteering in the community, and spending time with family and friends. Ilda was a member of First Christian Church Greensboro for 16 years where she participated in adult school and womens circle. She was a volunteer cross-stitcher and knitter of both quilt squares for terminally ill children for the Love Quilts organization, and childrens sweaters for the Knit for Kids organization. She was also involved in Reading Connections literacy work and refugee resettlement in Greensboro. Ilda led a life of quiet caring and compassion for others, demonstrating her Christ-like love for all of Gods people through word and deed. Ilda was preceded in death by her husband, Les, as well as sisters Electa Corson Tubbs, and Erma Corson Page. She is survived by her daughter Ann Farnum Hess (Bernie) of Greensboro, and son Bill Farnum (Barbara Middleton Farnum) of Tyler, Texas. Grammy is survived by five grandchildren; Cheryl Hess Pressley (Dano), Michael Hess, Brett Farnum (Heather), Jake Farnum (Christie), and Sharon Farnum; as well as five great grandchildren; Dano Trey Pressley III, Schzey Farnum, and siblings Brady, Neeley & Camryn Farnum. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to all who showed their care and concern for Ilda. Special thanks go to Hospice of the Piedmont staff who effectively responded to multiple phone calls a day. Their dedication enabled Ilda to peacefully pass away at home, as was her wish, with the support of her family, friends and two beloved dogs, Mexico & Chi Chi. Thank you to Ebonie Patterson who provided weekly home care with love and special effort. Volunteers from Hospice, friends, such as Judy Joyner, and neighbors gave essential and appreciated breaks to primary caregivers.
