Obituary: Age 96 Of Saint Paul Passed away 31, 2016. Rita (Rikel) was born in 1920 in the Carpathian mountain shtetl of Lesko, Poland, and is a Shoah survivor. marriage in 1946 to Leon Finver while in the DP camp of Bad Gastein, Austria, they emigrated to the United States in 1948 to begin a new life together; in New York, then south Jersey, New York (again), retirement for 27 years in Florida and finally, Minnesota. Rita was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Manaster, and immediate family members who perished in the Shoah. She will be deeply missed by her husband, companion, and partner during 70 years of marriage, Leon Finver. Rita is survived by a son, Sheldon Finver (Dee Albert); proud grandmother of David Jared Finver and Ziesel Miriam/Mara Rahimi (Nevo), and one great-grandson, Yedidya Rahimi. She enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a caregiver, beginning in occupied Poland and the Soviet army, then moving on and becoming a LPN in the United States. At age 50, she earned a union-sponsored scholarship, returning to college and becoming a RN. Rita worked as a charge nurse for the remainder of her career at Beth Abraham hospital, a site made famous by neurologist/author Oliver Sachs for insights into Parkinson's and memory. Graveside Service , 4, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Mount Zion , 1670 Payne Avenue, Saint Paul. Rita's warm smile and zest for life will be deeply missed.
