Obituary: Marion a Fischer, aged 96, died , 13, 2014 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Marion was born 4, 1918 in Reed City, Michigan to and Vernie Borck. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Howard, who died in 2002. Surviving Marion are her daughter Debra (Mark) Warwick; grandchildren, Chris (Tara) Warwick, Kelley (Matt) Kulis and Heather. Also surviving are her favorite nephews David, Harold, and Scott Borck. Marion was affectionately known as Grandma Rose. Marion was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church serving on the alter guild. She enjoyed her involvement in the American Legion, Kiwanis and the Casino Club. Marion was also an avid golfer and bowler. Marion enjoyed a long professional career as an assistant secretary treasurer with Leitelt Iron Works. Obituary: Fischer, Lorene R. served as Dean of Wayne State University’s of from 1977 to 1987. She joined WSU’s of faculty in 1955 as an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatric Mental . She initiated the University’s first graduate program in nursing, dealing with the care of children with psychiatric disorders. This innovative program was the only one of its kind in the state. Prior to becoming Dean, Fischer served as chairperson of the Department of Psychiatric from 1957 to 1975. She was appointed director of WSU’s undergraduate program in 1976. She served on the board of directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan from 1990 to 2003. Service on other boards of directors included the Greater Detroit Council for the Blind and the Visiting Nurses Association of Metropolitan Detroit. Fischer consulted throughout the United States and globally for the World Organization and other organizations in Africa, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East. A nationally recognized leader in the area of psychiatric mental health nursing and nursing education, she published numerous articles on emotionally disturbed children and the development of the nursing profession and marketing of nursing education. In 1961, she was admitted as a fellow of the American Academy of . She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the national nursing society. She worked in various leadership capacities for professional organizations such as the American Nurses Association, and served as a member of the board of directors of the American Association of s of , president of the Michigan Association of s of , chair of the membership committee of the American Academy of , and secretary on the board of directors of the Michigan Nurses Association. Fischer held baccalaureate and master’s degrees from Columbia University. She also pursued doctoral studies in higher education administration at the University of Michigan. retiring from WSU, she and her husband, Heinz “Hans”, resided in Dearborn. continued to enjoy and support the Michigan Opera Theatre and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She is survived by her daughter Susan Warner of Arlington, VA, her brother Allen Rowen of Rochester Hills, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Heinz “Hans” Fischer and brother Henry Rowen of Madison, OH. Obituary: Lorene L. Fischer Lansing, Michigan Lorene Fischer, 94, passed away 1, 2014. She was born 18, 1920 to Marvin and Sylvia (Hardman) Lloyd in Akron, Ohio. Lorene moved to Michigan in 1941. She married Walter H. Fischer and together they raised 4 sons. Lorene retired from the State of Michigan Department of Transportation in 1982. She alternated living in Michigan for 6 months, and 6 months in Florida. Lorene loved to travel, and do crafts and painting. She kept active as a hospice volunteer, and as a member of many organizations, including the Moose, the Elks, the Eagles, the Red Hat Society, the 39ers Club, and was a 60 year member of the D.A.R. Lorene was preceded in death by her husband in 1978 and one grandchild, Michael H. Fischer. Surviving to cherish her memory are sons, James (Donna) Fischer of Apollo Beach, Florida, William (Karin) Fischer of Wixom, Michigan, David (Colleen) Fischer of Portland, Michigan, Raymond (Robyn) Fischer of Portland, Oregon; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and niece, Jackie (Ted) Denison of The Villages, Florida. Service will be held 11:00 am , 9, 2014 at Gorsline Runciman s, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. The family will receive relatives and friends on , 8, 2014 from 4-8 pm at the funeral home.
