Obituary: Ruby Garcia Frilot went to be with our Lord on 4, 2016 at the age of 90. She was the devoted wife of the late Raymond J. Frilot. Daughter of the late Oscar and Amelia Camp Garcia. She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Lester, Joseph, Hilda, Malcolm, Hazel and Melvin Garcia, Aline G. Martin, Rita G. Heisser and Lucille G. Heisser. Mother of Roseanna F. Pappion (Gregory) and Reginald Frilot (Cheryl). She is also survived by four grandchildren, Gregory Pappion II (Melissa), Jeremy Pappion, Jarrod and Jessica Frilot; two great grandchildren, Blake and Skylar Pappion; one sister-in-law, Kathleen Frilot Tauriac, devoted nephews Raymond (Joan) and Verdell (Patricia) Heisser and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Obituary: Westlake - Alvin Ray Friesner, 77, born 27, 1936 left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on 6, 2014. Ray was a native of Westlake, Louisiana. He was an avid sports fan. In 1953, Ray helped lead the Westlake Rams football team to their only state championship. In 1954, he was named all-state quarterback. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from McNeese State University and his masters degree from Louisiana State University. having taught mathematics for 31 years, Ray retired from McNeese in 1992. He was also a well-known cabinet maker in the lake area. Ray was an inspiration to all who knew him. If you were a stranger when you met him, you weren when you left. He was a member of Westlake Church of God and loved his church family like it was his own. Ray was an unselfish man that did for others and was loved beyond measure. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Ann Barrow Friesner, his high school sweetheart, who he married in 1957. He had four daughters: Alyson Chance of Westlake; Julie Turnage and husband Bruce of Westlake; Maggie White and husband Kevin of DeQuincy; and Liz Glass and husband Jason of Moss Bluff. Ray was very proud of the fact that all four of his daughters followed in his footsteps and became teachers. He is also survived by his nine precious grandchildren: Chadd (Chuck) Turnage and wife Emily, Jeremy (Merimiah) Ortego and wife Tiffany, Josh (Ralph) Turnage and fiancé Pennie Dupree, Kayla (Kate) Gray and husband Brian, Garrett (Grubby) White, Claire (Clarabelle) White, Mary Beth (Beff) Glass, Megan (Sunshine) Ortego and boyfriend Zach Vincent, and Haley (Pickett) Glass; his step-grand-daughters: Kara Benoit and husband Chris, Ashley Mesa and husband Josh, and Amanda Rebert and husband Chad; 21 great-grandchildren; sister Mildred Rose Mere; many nieces and nephews who were very special to him; sister-in-law Mary Hereford and her husband and longtime friend J.D. Hereford; brother-in-law Chester Barrow and wife Justine; and childhood and lifelong friends Wayne Fleming and wife Sandra. He was preceded in death by his parents Oland and Georgia (Schwarzer) Friesner; sisters Dorothy Conrad, Ola Mae Hicks, and Evelyn Milburn; brothers Bud Friesner and Dan Friesner. services will be at 2:00 p.m., , 9, at Westlake Church of God on Maddox Street. Obituary: Virginia C. Fries, age 101, bade us a peaceful farewell on , 22, around 9:30 p.m. She passed away at home, surrounded by family and the love of many friends. She had lived in the New Orleans area for the past 4 years with her daughter, Joan West. Virginia was an active member of the Bahai Faith. Her Faith fueled her lifelong striving for truth, justice, compassion, and the oneness of mankind. Virginia was born in Racine, Wisconsin on 10, 1914. She was the eldest child of three, including siblings, Marjorie and Charles Jr. Her parents were Charles and Emma Chaslavsky. She was a voracious reader and hungered for knowledge. She graduated from Horlick High School at the age of 17 and went on to the University of Wisconsin - Madison. two years she left school to work full-time to support her family. She was a member of The Greatest Generation, living through WWI, the Great Depression, and WWII, all of which greatly affected her life. She had a brilliant mind, but also an extraordinary empathy and compassion for all, but especially for the underdog, whether human or animal. In 1941 Virginia married William F. Fries from Mazomanie, Wisconsin. had the first Bahai wedding in Madison. bought their first house in Bills hometown of Mazomanie. It was there that their three children, Joan, Bill, and Susan, were born and spent many idyllic years growing up. In 1960 the family moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin where Virginia spent the remainder of her career working for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the Registrars office. She was proud to be a public servant. Virginia had a passion for every flower, bird, and breeze. Her zeal rubbed off on her children and grandchildren, and gave us each our natural affinity for nature. She also had a delightful and impish sense of humor. Bill passed away in 1991, Virginia often opened her home to roommates and those in need. She didn gossip or speak ill of people. She kept her own council, glorified God, worked hard, loved unconditionally, defended the weak, and always went the extra mile. Virginia is survived by her three children: Joan (Nat) West of Avondale, LA, Bill ( Kathy) Fries of Nahma, MI, Susan (Bill) Jones of Lewiston, Idaho; her grandchildren: Mark Fries, Michael Anderson and Ryan Anderson; great-grandchildren, Amy and Loretta Anderson, Zachary, Jacob, and Matthew Fries; niece, Marie Bigley, and nephews Gary (Lori) Heidt-Johnson and Dale (Julie) Johnson. A BahaI funeral service will be held , Jan. 30 at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 at Westside Leitz-Egan in Marrero. Interment will take place at Restlawn Park and Mausoleum in Avondale. |

Obituary: FRIERSON Louis Lumaghi Frierson, Jr. passed away on 5, 2015 at home. Lou was 48 years old and is beloved son of, Ruthie Jones and Louis Lumaghi Frierson, Sr and his brother George Martin Frierson and his nephew, Brice Thomas Frierson. He is the grandson of the late Polly and George S. Frierson, Jr. and Ruth and Martin L. Jones and his step-grandmother Celeste Offutt Frierson and his uncle George Frierson. He is survived by his aunts and uncles, Jackie Derks, Judy Paine (Lincoln), Martin L. Jones, Jr. (Gayle Landt ), Ann Milliner (Denis) and cousins Parke Cooper (Debbie), Shawn Maruri (Jorge de La Macorra) , Adrienne Paine, Rachel Fuller (Graham), Whiton Paine(Archana), Evan Jones (Kirsten), Allison Jones and David Milliner (Christine) and his step aunts and uncles Billy Offutt (Jane Allen), Randy Offutt, Webb Offutt, Maury Offutt and his step-cousins, Jane Scott Hodges (Philip), King Offutt (Grandison), Matt Reeves (Lisa) and other loving family and friends. Lou graduated from Marvelwood School in Cornwall, CT. and received the English prize at graduation. He attended Hampden Sydney and Tulane Universities and studied at the Columbia Film and Video School of Chicago. While living in New Orleans, Chicago and Atlanta, Lou worked in video production, broadcasting and documentaries. Lou was larger than life to all who knew him. With his huge smile, towering at 6’5” he was referred to affectionately as “little Lou” by his family and friends both near and far. He will be remembered for his kind and generous heart and his witty sense of humor. He adored his family and friends always showing them support and love. He shared his faith, spirituality and his passion for the outdoors and travel with his mother, father, brother and Godson, Brice. It has been said that the heart and mind are the true lens of the camera. And if that is true, Lou's body of work is a reflection of the beauty and love that he saw in the world, and more importantly what he wanted to share with those who were close to him. Obituary: The Most Reverend William Benedict Friend, first Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Shreveport, died , 2, 2015, in Coral Springs, Florida. He was appointed the founding Bishop of Shreveport by Pope John Paul II on 16, 1986, and installed at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans on 30, 1986. His retirement was accepted on 20, 2006, by Pope Benedict XVI. retirement, he assisted with sacramental ministry at St. Andrew Parish in Coral Springs, Florida. Born in Miami, Florida, 22, 1931, Bishop Friend attended and graduated in 1949 from Gesu Catholic School. He also attended the University of Miami where he majored in business administration. Prior to entering studies for the priesthood, he pursued a career in finance and marketing. In preparation for the priesthood, he completed studies at St. Mary , Kentucky, and Mount Saint Marys Seminary, Emmitsburg, Maryland. He was ordained a priest for service in the Diocese of Mobile-Birmingham in Alabama on May 7, 1959. ordination he completed studies at The Catholic University of America and the American Management Institute, New York. On 30, 1979, he was ordained Titular Bishop of Pomaria and Auxiliary Bishop of Alexandria-Shreveport. He was appointed Bishop of Alexandria-Shreveport in 1982. Bishop Friend also served as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Alexandria from 2003 until 2005. Bishop Friend was awarded the Brotherhood and Humanitarian Award by the Shreveport/Bossier City Chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews in 1987. The Greater Shreveport Human Relations Commission honored him with the 1999 Universal Human Rights Service Award, and in 2004 Bishop Friend received the Harry Blake Award for African American Empowerment. Bishop Friend was awarded the Order of Knight of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem with the rank of Knight Commander with Star. He was a member of the Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus, serving the Order as Louisiana State Chaplain and as Grand Prelate, and was honored with the Order of the Fleur de Lis. In 1987, Bishop Friend received the Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from St. Leo , St. Leo, Florida. He was elected Secretary of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops from 2001-2003, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) from 1998 to 2003. He was a member of numerous professional organizations including the Pontifical Council for Culture (Vatican), the Catholic Academy of Sciences, the New York Academy of Sciences, the World Future Society, the Committee for Science and Human Values of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences and the American Academy of Religion. Bishop Friend served as a trustee of two seminaries and board member of several Catholic hospitals in Louisiana, Shreveports Biomedical Research , a pastoral center for Catholic Hispanics in the Southeastern United States, the Catholic Campus Ministry Association, Shreveport-Bossier City Community Renewal Program and Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission. He also was councilor to the Catholic Committee of the South and Notre Dame Universitys OReilly for the Study of Science, Philosophy and Theology, and consultant to the Southern African Bishops Conference. Author of over 49 publications in professional journals, books and periodicals, Bishop Friend presented papers in Mexico, Brazil, Canada, the United States and the Vatican. Bishop Friend is survived by his sister, Jean Boccard, of Coral Springs, Florida; niece, Lisa Boccard (Claudio Sad) also of Coral Springs; nephew, Matthew L. Boccard, Jr. (Brenda) of Jacksonville, Florida; nephew, Vincent M. Boccard, former Mayor of Coral Springs, (Terry); great nephews, James Addis and Nicholas Addis; great niece, Sophia Boccard; and great-great niece, Ava Jade Addis, all of Coral Springs, Florida. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on , 7, 2015, 11:00am at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 9950 NW 29th Street, Coral Springs. Bishop Friend will be transferred to Shreveport and will lie in state at The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans on , 12, 2015, 7:30 - 10:30pm, , 13, 2015, 10:00am - 10:00pm followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on , 14, 2015, 11:00am. Interment will be at the Prayer Garden of the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans.
