Obituary: Juanita T. French Waverly, LA Juanita Turnage French, 97, of Waverly, LA who was a friend to many and a loving person died peacefully on May 29, surrounded by her family. Her life career was that of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, farmer and school cafeteria manager. She enjoyed all of these activities but took the most pleasure in visiting with lifelong friends and family. She was an inspiration and role model to her children and grandchildren, always gently teaching and guiding us to achieve to our highest ability. She taught us that education and a good work ethic was important and she motivated us to accomplish much more than we thought possible. She was self-educated and very creative. Through the Great Depression she worked hard to help support her family and was unable to attend school. But in her 50s, after raising her family, she completed her GED – a great personal achievement. She enjoyed music and shared that with her family and church. Late in life she started painting and was recognized with many awards for her art. In her 80s she wrote an autobiographical record of the life she shared with our father titled Memoirs of a Sharecroppers Wife. She had deep spiritual beliefs and daily practiced and shared her faith in Jesus. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe French, a son Carl French, and a daughter Joann Hagan. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Mary French, and sons-in-law Jerry King and Larry Mixon; great grand-daughter Crystal Tompkins; 10 brothers and her parents Addie Carson and Fleet Turnage. She is survived by sons Luke French (wife Joanne) of Warsaw, VA; Steve French (wife Ann) of Monroe, LA; Don French and Dennis French (wife Sherry) of Waverly, LA; and son-in-law John Hagan of Lakewood, CO.
