Obituary: A service to celebrate the well-lived, faith-filled, and loving life of Maureen (Dowd) Fleenor will be held on , 19th at the Reformed Church of Twin Falls, 1631 Grandview Drive North, at 1 p.m. Maureen was born on a snowy Easter on 27, 1932 in Bladen, Nebraska at home on the farm. She was the first child of Willard and Sarina Dowd. When the dust storms came and it was too dry to farm, they moved to Idaho when Maureen was three and half years old. She went to grade school at Castleford, then Berger, and high school at Hollister. She and LeRoy Fleenor took turns driving to the Christian Endeavor young peoples program at Hollister Presbyterian Church. He asked her to marry him. A big storm dropped a lot of snow the night before their wedding. LeRoy walked four miles across fields piled high with snow to Maureens home and finally made to the Presbyterian parsonage in Twin Falls where they were married on the evening of 15, 1949. almost 66 years of marriage Maureen is survived by her husband, LeRoy. She worked alongside him for almost 60 years as school bus contractors for the Filer and Buhl school districts. She also drove school bus during those years. At the age of 32 she graduated from Filer High School fulfilling a promise she made to her father when she married. She was the Director of the Hot Lunch program in the Filer School District from 1968 to 1992 and City Clerk of Hollister for 20 years. Maureen knew the name of every child who rode her school bus and walked through the lunch line. Maureen was a member of the Reformed Church of Twin Falls. Prior to that she was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Hollister for 40 plus years where she served as School teacher, Ruling Elder, and president of the womens association. She was very interested in history and recently helped the Hollister Elementary School celebrate its 100th anniversary, joining in the writing of the schools history in story and pictures. She also devoted many years to genealogical research and the making of family history albums. She and LeRoy enjoyed lots of travels together plus bowling, motorcycling, and golfing. Maureen was a truly remarkable woman. She will be remembered as a person of great strength who never gave up, who loved her family unconditionally, who enjoyed people and engaging them in conversation, who loved God, and was a good friend to many. She died peacefully at home on , 15, after living courageously with cancer for 8 years. Maureen is survived by four daughters - Sue (Lynn), Helen Brown (Greg), Sally Williamson (Randy), Debbie Anonson (Steve), two sons - John (Shellie) and Jim (Amy), 18 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren plus two brothers Warren Dowd (Suzette) and Allen Dowd (Judy). She was preceded in death by infant son, David; daughter, Katie Scott; and grandchildren, Amy and Todd Williamson; and brother, Carrol Dowd. A service will be held on , 19th at the Reformed Church of Twin Falls, 1631 Grandview Drive North, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Maureen may be directed to Community Presbyterian Church of Hollister, c/o Rhea Lanting 2181B North 2300 East, Twin Falls, 83301. arrangements are under the direction of White Mortuary Chapel by the Park. |
