Obituary: Norma Easley-Eyre left this world 31, 2014. She was born in the Minnehaha House in Manitou Springs, 17, 1927 to Ralph Wilbur Easley and Norma Alice Grace and spent her early life on her grandparents homestead in Divide. At eighteen, while driving Army vehicles for Camp Carson she met and married Frank Mazzillo. Their son, Carl Ralph Mazzillo, survives her. Later, in California, she managed the famous Brown Derby and other nightclubs in Hollywood. Back in Colorado she married Duncan Mac Alester Eyre, who precedes her in death. Their two children, Helen Eyre Hazelton and Duncan MacAlester Eyre, survive her. Her beloved sister, Patricia Porter was her lifelong friend and confidant. Norma loved to travel, the more exotic the better. She went alone to Cairo and Khartoum in her sixties to satisfy her fascination with the ancient world. Norma regarded every obstacle as a challenge and reveled in her ability to triumph over adversity, of which she had more than her share. She was a steadfast friend whose loyalty was unassailable while her regard for the opinion of others was provisional. More than anything, Norma will be remembered for her fearless independent spirit and joie de vivre. She was dearly loved by her family and will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice. Memorial Services will be held at Grace and St. Stephens Episcopal Church, , 8th, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. |

Obituary: Juanita Nita C. Earwood Juanita (Christian) Earwood, 82, passed away peacefully 29, 2013 after fighting an infection from appendicitis. She was born 23, 1930, in Atlanta, GA to Dorcas (Ruff) and Alvin Christian and was an only child. In 1950 she married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Gene Earwood. Her marriage to a military man, took her to France where her first son, J. Michael (Diana Beccue) was born. Eventually Juanita and family found themselves stationed in Colorado or as friends called it Gods Country. purchasing a home in Commerce City in 1957 two daughters, Cynde (Mark Zbryk) and then Lisa (Michael Sadar) arrived. The family managed to return to this home between assignments and upon retirement from the military. One assignment took the family to Germany where son, Joel was born. Another took them to Fort Riley, KS. Nita spent many years caring and guiding her four children. Many of these years during times when Gene was in Korea or Vietnam or pulling night duties guarding what later became declassified and disclosed to be nuclear bombs during the height of the cold war. Her children came first and she had high expectations for their behavior. Her southern ways carried through with expected responses from her children such as yes maam or o maam. Nitas parents cared for the Commerce City home during these absences. When illness struck and took her father, her mothers health also failed from the stress and needed close support to recover fully. Unfortunately, the family was on orders to return to Germany. A request for a compassionate re-assignment to allow Nita to care for family was declined. To keep from having her family torn apart Nita wrote an impassioned letter to then President Nixon requesting his intervention to allow her family to stay whole. A response came in the option to allow Gene to retire having served over 20 years in service. She protected her family, keeping them from being divided on two continents. Nita eventually joined the workforce to help support her family during lean times. Initially she took a job as a maid at the Sheraton Inn near the old Stapleton airport. She was honored for her services in this position. Another job opportunity at Jeppesen Sanderson brought more hours and better pay but also involved very physical work and long hours on her feet. She rose to a supervisory role in the revisions department where updated flight material was prepared for commercial and private pilots all over the world. This work required attention to detail to help protect pilots from receiving the wrong information and potentially putting lives at risk. Nitas hard work and attention to detail again brought her recognition from the company. Nita eventually retired from Jeppessen and enjoyed traveling in Colorado and the US with Gene in their motor home and volunteering together at Rose Hill Elementary school and on Suncors (Conoco) Citizen Advisory board, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and as the volunteer coordinator for ArtReach for senior members of the recreation center. Upon Genes death she took his position on the Liquor Authority. She focused her attention on her community. Her children felt a need to make appointments to see their mother through these years. She finally found herself busy outside of the home after all those years dedicated to her family. Nita paid attention to details yet saw the big picture. As volunteer coordinator of ArtReach she touched many more lives and provided the organizational skills to allow senior members the opportunity to go to theaters, concerts and other entertainment all along the front range. The support of other volunteers and the offering of tickets through ArtReach made this possible. Her dedication allowed this project to be recognized as a model for other programs. The venues appreciated a simple thank you and some began to recognize and look forward to seeing this group of patrons from Commerce City. Nita was chosen the be one of two celebrity citizens from Commerce City during Adams s 100 year anniversary. The nominees needed to be over the age of seventy, to have lived in the city for a minimum of twenty-five years, and to have participated in making the city a better place. She had indeed met this criteria but was still humbled by her selection to represent the city throughout that year at events and parades. Her polite southern upbringing was evident in all her interactions. Her willingness to help and offer a sincere hank you endeared her to many. She had a quick wit and wry since of humor up until the end. She did not beat around the bush, she called it as she saw it. Her children knew where they stood. In addition to her four children Nita is survived by six grandchildren, Shane Earwood, Kiefer Zbryk, Kayla Earwood, Courtney Sadar, Conner Earwood and Megan Sadar and 2 great grandchildren, Jayden and Landon Earwood. Viewing: , 8th, 3 pm to 7 pm at Olinger Moore Howard Mortuary at 46th and Tennyson Services: Noon on , 9th at the same location followed by internment at Fort Logan National at 2:30 PM. She participated in studies to help the American Diabetes Association learn more about the disease and to seek a cure.
